Donald Trump and Melania Trump hosted a Halloween event at the White House – and some of the children’s costumes raised eyebrows for all the wrong reasons!

According to official coverage from the event, some of the children in attendance sported Russian military-style uniforms and Soviet-style caps as their costumes, while another wore traditional Russian clothing. And people online had a lot of thoughts about their controversial costume choices…

Donald Trump And Melania Trump’s Halloween Event At The White House

The president and first lady hosted their annual Halloween celebration on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday, October 29th, welcoming approximately 6,000 guests for an evening of trick-or-treating.

The event was attended by military families, law enforcement families, foster and adoptive families, and administration officials with their children. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth attended with his wife, Jennifer Rauchet, and their children, while White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller was also pictured with his family.

The Trumps didn’t appear to be dressed in Halloween costumes themselves, with the POTUS wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt, and blue tie, while the FLOTUS opted for a chic chocolate-brown suede wrap coat by Nour Hammour. The Slovenian-American former model paired the belted coat with brown snakeskin-embossed Manolo Blahnik pumps, and wore her long blonde hair in loose waves.

The White House was decorated with pumpkins, autumn foliage, and a glowing harvest moon featuring bat silhouettes. Guests were also treated to Halloween music performed by the U.S. Air Force Strolling Strings, while Air Force One made two flyovers during the festivities.

The children wore a wide variety of costumes, including Barbie, Batman, ballerinas, firefighters, soldiers, baseball players, and Toy Story characters, among so many others. However, it was the Russian-themed outfits worn by some of the younger guests that attracted particular attention online…

Pictures and videos showed a young boy wearing a military-style uniform and a cap resembling a Soviet military cap, complete with an emblem resembling the USSR coat of arms. A young girl was also seen wearing a traditional Russian sarafan-style dress with a kokoshnik-inspired headdress.

The children approached Donald and Melania to receive candy, with the first lady even appearing to briefly touch the boy's cap. Their identities have not been publicly confirmed, nor is it known why they chose those particular costumes, but that didn't stop social media from weighing in!

Social Media Comments

The comments online ranged from mockery to outrage, with some social media users questioning whether the children had chosen the costumes themselves or whether their parents had insisted on them, among other things...

"Some kids came to the White House for Halloween wearing Russian pixel military uniforms, a Soviet military cap, and a Russian dress. Right now, these are genuinely the scariest costumes," one X user captioned a video.

"Of course, it symbolizes the Russian-occupied White House," replied one person in the comments. "A child dressed as a war criminal meets the President and First Lady of the US at an official event. Disgusting!" exclaimed a second, while a third simply wrote: "Gross!"

"The atrocities never cease," commented a fourth, as a fifth quipped: "I'm surprised he didn't salute that kid!" "Their Russian oligarch father probably paid for the Halloween party! I'm not even joking!" speculated a sixth.

"Although not a Russian pixel uniform but a MARPAT clone for kids, with a Russian patch Velcroed on, the intent this signals is clear - Trump loves Russia," claimed a seventh.

"I think this has been done on purpose by Trump and his ilk. They want a reaction from the World to show that they are aligning more and more with the enemy! I despise these people with every fibre of my being!" slammed an eighth.

"Interesting choice of costumes. What child decides to dress like that for Halloween?" questioned a ninth. "Who the [expletive] dresses these innocent children. Republicans, that's who," wrote a tenth, while an eleventh commented: "The parents should be arrested. But no worries, Trump will pardon them."

"The parents of these children are clearly unfit," criticized a twelfth. "No way any kid chose these costumes... it's not funny so it must be the Millers," speculated a thirteenth, although the children's identities have not been publicly confirmed at the time of writing.
