Jennifer Lopez is reportedly clashing with the director of her new movie over the final cut – and it’s giving some Hollywood insiders and social media users serious flashbacks to Blake Lively’s infamous feud with her It Ends With Us director and co-star, Justin Baldoni.
The Hustlers alum, 57, is reportedly butting heads with filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, 75, over their upcoming Netflix psychological thriller, The Last Mrs. Parrish. According to insiders, Lopez, who is also a producer on the film, has been trying to make changes following allegedly disappointing test screenings, which Zemeckis is reportedly less than thrilled with. All three parties have since denied the allegations, but that hasn’t stopped people from weighing in! Keep reading for more details…

Jennifer Lopez Reportedly Clashing With Director Robert Zemeckis Over New Netflix Movie
According to an October 28th report from Page Six, Lopez allegedly tried to take control of the editing process following negative feedback from test screenings.
"She's taking over… But she's just trying to salvage the movie," one source told Page Six. However, another insider painted a slightly different picture, claiming that the singer and actress has been overstepping her role as a producer.
"She's tried to take it over. She fancies herself a filmmaker," the insider claimed. "It's been testing terrible. Lopez panicked and has been in the editing room. Behind the scenes, everyone's saying it's a Blake Lively [situation]."

Jennifer Lopez And Robert Zemeckis Deny 'Clashing' Reports As Netflix Defends Movie
However, Netflix has disputed claims that the movie performed poorly during test screenings, suggesting that Lopez's efforts to reportedly "salvage" it may not have been necessary after all. The streaming giant insisted: "The film tested well, particularly with fans of Jennifer."
The outlet also reported that Lopez and Zemeckis, who is known for directing movies such as Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, and Cast Away, had worked on the film's edit together and were expected to meet again to discuss the next steps.

The movie, which reportedly has a $100M budget, is an adaptation of Liv Constantine's bestselling 2017 novel of the same name. Lopez stars as Daphne Parrish, while Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays her husband, Jackson, and Isabel May portrays Amber Patterson. The film is reportedly expected to arrive in 2027, although Netflix hasn't announced an official release date.
The Office Romance star and Zemeckis are seemingly keen to shut down the feud rumors, as Netflix, Lopez, and Zemeckis said in a joint statement: "As we have said to Page Six, this reporting is categorically false. Any suggestion that the filmmakers are not working in unison is without merit."

Why Are Insiders Comparing Jennifer Lopez To Blake Lively?
So why is the "I'm Real" singer being compared to the Gossip Girl alum? If you recall, Lively, 39, reportedly clashed with Baldoni, 42, over several creative decisions on their 2024 movie, including its editing.
The Another Simple Favor actress, who also served as a producer, reportedly developed an alternative cut of the movie that differed from Baldoni's vision. Her husband, Ryan Reynolds, was also involved in making creative changes, with Lively revealing that he had written the now-famous rooftop scene where her character, Lily Bloom, first meets Baldoni's character, Ryle Kincaid. "The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that but you now," she told E! News at the movie's August 2024 premiere.
Their behind-the-scenes disagreements eventually became part of a much larger legal battle after Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation, allegations he denied. Baldoni also made allegations against Lively and Reynolds, which they disputed. The pair settled their main legal dispute in May 2026.

The Internet Compares Jennifer Lopez To Blake Lively: 'She Is Pulling A Blake'
It wasn't just Hollywood insiders making the comparison, as social media users also weighed in on the alleged drama, with several suggesting that "pulling a Blake Lively" should become a new expression!
"She is pulling a Blake," wrote one Reddit user. "J-Lo did a Blake Lively special. This is a verb now. Lmao," joked a second, as a third agreed: "Pulling a Blake Lively is hilarious and exactly what she deserves."
"Whenever there's something I want to do that's someone else's job, I'm going to say that I want to 'Blake Lively' it and mess it all up," quipped a fourth, followed by several crying laughing emojis.
A fifth added: "Whether there is any truth to this at all, I am living for the fact that Blake Lively is now an adjective used to describe the hostile takeover of a movie production… Karma is well and truly a [expletive]."
Others couldn't resist poking fun at the comparison itself, with a sixth writing: "It's bad when notorious diva J-Lo suffers from being compared to Blake Lively." "She'd probably hate being compared to Blake," speculated a seventh.

Other Reddit users were more critical of the Kiss of the Spider Woman actress's alleged involvement in the editing process, particularly given Zemeckis' impressive filmmaking credentials.
"Can absolutely see J-Lo butting in during film editing purely for vanity reasons and to make sure she 'looks great' at all times in every frame. In fact, it'd totally be an 'on brand' move for her!" an eighth exclaimed. "But for her to insert herself and then leak to media outlets that SHE actually knows better than the Robert Zemeckis what does, or doesn't, constitute 'great cinema' is absolute peak delusion, in my opinion."
A ninth referenced the joint statement issued by Lopez and Zemeckis, writing: "Nice that Lopez and the director made a joint statement. Imagine how different Blake's life would be if she took that method instead of trying to turn everyone against Justin in an unsavvy and amateur way."
