Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are facing criticism after celebrating their son Joseph’s 13th birthday at the White House with President Donald Trump, with some social media users calling the family gathering underwhelming for a teenager.
On October 15, the former presidential advisor took to Instagram to share photos from the special occasion, giving followers a glimpse of the birthday celebration.
For her son’s milestone birthday, the mom of three opted for an elegant look, wearing a dark, knee-length dress featuring a skirt overlay and crystal embroidery on the shoulder for a touch of sparkle. She completed her outfit with a pair of black pumps.

Joseph, meanwhile, went for a more formal look, wearing a suit and tie. His father, Jared, also dressed up for the occasion in a suit.
The photos showed the family gathered around a dinner table, enjoying a meal together with elegant plates and decorative table settings.
Other images captured Joseph visiting his grandfather’s office, where the two appeared to look through a book seemingly dedicated to the president’s memories with his grandchildren.
The family of four also shared a birthday cake to mark Joseph’s special day. However, the celebration quickly sparked criticism online, with some social media users questioning why the teenager’s birthday was held at the White House and seemingly attended by only his parents and grandfather.
Several commenters also pointed out that Joseph’s two siblings, Arabella and Theodore, were not visible in the photos.
“The saddest birthday I’ve ever seen,” one person wrote.
Another commenter criticized the setting, saying, “What else does he do? Pep rally’s, golf, tweet, rename a lake, repeat.”
Others questioned the birthday boy’s formal attire, with one person writing, “What 13 year old has to wear a tie to his birthday party.”
“Who celebrates a 13th birthday in a suit?” another asked.
“Does he have to wear a suit to eat with Grandpa?” a third person commented.
“Where’s the rest of the family??” another user questioned.
One critic even suggested a more casual celebration would have been better suited for a teenager, writing, “Oh what fun for a 13 year old boy. Put some jeans and a sweatshirt on and throw him a football.”

Ivanka married Jared Kushner on October 25, 2009, and the couple share three children: Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore.
Ivanka’s children have visited the White House on numerous occasions over the years.
Just last month, she brought her 15-year-old daughter, Arabella, to attend the White House state dinner and formal arrival ceremony for Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan. Arabella sat in the front row and reportedly greeted the Chinese leader in Mandarin.
However, her appearance at the high-profile event also sparked criticism, with some social media users questioning her outfit for the state dinner and arguing that it was too revealing for a teenager. Donald Trump has 11 grandchildren.
His eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., shares five children with his former wife, Vanessa Trump, while his son Eric Trump shares two children with his wife, Lara Trump. Ivanka and Jared have three children, and his youngest daughter, Tiffany Trump, has one child with her husband, Michael Boulos.
