Former President Barack Obama is facing backlash from conservative social media users after speaking out against political division during a recent campaign rally in Georgia.

While he urged Americans to move past the anger and hostility that have come to define the country’s political climate, some critics argued that his own presidency helped contribute to the very divisions he now wants to leave behind. Read more about what Barack had to say and how the internet reacted below.

Barack Obama Speaks At Georgia Rally Alongside Jon Ossoff & Keisha Lance Bottoms

The former president took the stage at a campaign rally in Morrow, Georgia, on October 28th, joining Democratic Senate candidate Jon Ossoff and candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms ahead of the November midterm elections. He urged voters to support Democrats up and down the ticket, arguing that the election could help lessen the power of President Donald Trump's administration.

During his speech, Barack criticized the administration over rising costs, alleged corruption, and what he described as a lack of accountability in Washington. He also called on Americans to move beyond the anger and division that have become common in the nation, stressing the importance of community and working together to build a better future.

"Yes, we need to end this war and the corruption in Washington, but we also need to rediscover our north star," he said. "I don't know about you, but I am tired of being angry. And I'm tired of being divided."

Republican Social Media Users Call Out Obama's Comments

Though fans were inspired by his words, some conservative and right-leaning social media users were less than impressed with the 65-year-old's message. After hearing him speak about wanting to move past political division, some social media users argued that his comments were ironic given what they viewed as his own divisive actions in office.

"Barack Obama [was] the Divider-in-Chief," joked an X user.

"He caused the divide," claimed another. "He is and always will be the great divider."

One user accused Obama of being the "most divisive politician in American history," as another commented, "You are the head of the snake. You have divided our country like no other ever before you."

"He's trying to rewrite his own polarizing record," a user responded.

"This guy never stops lying," wrote another.
