Meghan Markle is getting back into television! This time, though, she’s not playing a role, rather, she’s guest judge on MasterChef Australia. As part of her and Prince Harry’s four-day trip to Australia, the former royal announced she’ll be featured on an upcoming episode of the popular cooking show, which has its season premiere scheduled next week.
While many fans cheered for Markle and saw this as a natural next step following her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, others were questioning whether she has the authority to be judging a cooking show, when in the past she’s been called a “menace” in the kitchen. Keep reading for more information.
Meghan Markle On Australia MasterChef
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip to Australia was action-packed, with many joint appearances scheduled along side their solo outings. While Prince Harry visited the charity Movember and met veterans at the Australian War Memorial, Meghan made a surprise announcement on a preview for the upcoming season of MasterChef Australia.
With a post to Instagram, MasterChef Australia announced Meghan’s debut: “We’re welcoming someone SUPER special into the MasterChef Kitchen! Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, makes a special guest appearance this season as she returns to Australia for the first time since 2018. Joining a star-studded lineup of Guest Judges and culinary icons, Meghan helps guide some of the most impressive home cooks the competition has ever seen.”
While this seems like a natural side quest for the mother-of-two following her lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, many critics out there have previously called her a “menace” in the kitchen, after clips of her rubbing a raw turkey with seasoning while wearing rings and bangle bracelets.

Social Media Reactions
In the comment section of MasterChef Australia's Instagram post, the reactions were mixed. "For someone that wants privacy and to stay out of the press this is a very bizarre thing to do...much like her own shows!" one person commented. "Very contradictory."
"The only thing she knows about cooking is stirring the pot," another said.
"Is she gonna teach contestants to open a packet of biscuits and arrange them on a plate?" a third person asked.
"That just ruined it," said another.
"And the secret ingredient—flower petals!" said another.
"Masterchef...come on," a final user wrote. "You shouldn't find anyone else?"
