All of those pre-installed apps on your iPhone are “nice-to-haves,” but are they necessary? Not at all!

In fact, some of the apps you have lingering on your phone that you never use could be taking up needless amounts of storage space and battery. And while it’s true they aren’t the major driving forces when it comes to storage (it’s more fair to point fingers at Facebook and Instagram), they are contributing. More importantly: they aren’t giving you anything back in return if you’re not even using them. Consider deleting these eight pre-installed apps to save space.

1. Music

With so many apps offering services where you can listed to music (Spotify, YouTube), are you still using the pre-installed Music app? If it has been a dog’s age since you’ve opened it, you can remove it and save a little space.

2. Maps

Maps may not be a pre-installed app that you think about deleting because it’s one of the most helpful out there. But if already have a favorite maps app — Waze, maybe, or Google Maps — having yet another maps app is just redundant and takes up space.

4. You Leave Your Phone Charging All Night

For many people, part of their evening routine is plugging in their iPhone right on their bedside table, maybe scrolling for a bit, then leaving it on the charger as they drift off into sleep. After all, who doesn't want to wake up to a fully charged phone? However, this habit can be quite dangerous to your device's battery, especially if you don't use Optimized Battery Charging.

"While charging your iPhone overnight is not necessarily bad for it, the heat involved in charging your iPhone will do damage over time," notes expert and tech store owner Steven Athwal. "If you charge your iPhone and put it under your pillow, in a thick case, or in a warm room, you are causing your iPhone's battery to sit at high temperatures for long periods of time with high voltage applied to it."

4. Stocks

Are you using the Stocks app? If the answer is “no, never,” why keep it around? When it goes completely unused, Stocks is often considered an app that "wastes space" on your device. Delete it — you won’t miss it.

5. GarageBand

GarageBand is one app worth considering deleting, especially if you don't make music or use its recording and editing tools. Removing it can clear up storage that could be better used for photos, videos, and other apps you actually rely on. Therefore, if you're not looking to be an amateur songwriter, it might be the right app to ditch.

"GarageBand pre-loads sound libraries and instrument samples, totaling 1.6 GB, regardless of whether the user composes," notes tech pro Hanna Parkhots.

6. Find My iPhone

The Find My iPhone app is obviously a good one to have if you misplace your phone. But some privacy concerns associated with this app include the fact that it shares your location data, which also affects battery life.

7. Podcasts

Are you using Podcasts to download and save episodes of podcasts that you want to listen to? If so, great — keep it. But if you’ve only used it a few times, it could be continuing to download episodes and taking up storage space — you may not even know it’s happening.

8. Health

When you use the Health app, it can accumulate and store sensitive, personal data about your health, and it can be worrisome to think of it falling into the wrong hands. You can protect your privacy by deleting it.
