Kris Jenner is facing backlash for wearing a legendary piece of fashion history once owned by Elizabeth Taylor, with critics accusing the Kardashian-Jenner family of treating iconic vintage clothing as a way to attract attention.

The momager, 70, stepped out in an archival black velvet hooded cape that belonged to the late Hollywood legend at the All’s Fair season 2 premiere during the Rome Film Festival on October 24. However, fans quickly pointed out that Kim Kardashian had previously worn the same look while filming season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s drama.

The striking garment has a storied history. Taylor famously wore the Tiziani Roma cape to Princess Grace of Monaco’s 40th birthday celebration at the Hôtel Hermitage in Monte-Carlo in 1969. The piece features two silver scorpions embroidered on the chest in honor of Princess Grace’s astrological sign, Scorpio. The celebration itself followed a Scorpio theme and reportedly featured a guest list limited to people born under the sign.

Kris Jenner Slammed For Wearing Elizabeth Taylor's Scorpio Cape

The mom of six styled the vintage piece with white gloves, satin white flats and a diamond necklace, creating a dramatic look that quickly sparked debate online.

Rather than praising the fashion moment, however, some social media users questioned why Jenner and her daughter continue to wear clothing and accessories associated with deceased celebrities.

“Madam, you are no Elizabeth Taylor,” one critic wrote.

Another commented, “It’s giving Eyes Wide Shut.”

“Why is this entire family collecting and wearing dead people’s stuff?” someone else asked.

One commenter brought up Kardashian’s previous fashion choices, writing, “They love having and collecting and wearing dead people stuff. Kim even got, like, a napkin with Marilyn Monroe’s lipstick kiss on it. It’s a bit strange.”

Others accused the family of using the legacies of famous women to generate publicity rather than genuinely honoring them.

“They always look like they’re in costume, because rather than being inspired by the essence of these iconic women, they think they can buy it. Cheap and amateur cosplay,” one person argued.

“There is something very weird about being obsessed with wearing dead people’s clothes,” another added.

“Who is allowing this?” one critic asked, while someone else complained, “They are always wearing celebrity archives for clout … annoying.”

Another commenter was even more blunt, writing, “Desperate to compete where they don’t compare. Looking awful, as usual.”

Kim Kardashian’s History of Wearing Iconic Pieces

Kim especially has made headlines several times for wearing garments and accessories once owned by some of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures.

In May 2022, the Skims mogul wore Marilyn Monroe’s famous crystal-covered gown to the Met Gala. Monroe had worn the dress while singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy in 1962. Kardashian wore the original briefly on the red carpet before changing into a replica for the rest of the evening.

In 2024, she also wore Princess Diana’s historic Attallah cross necklace with a white Gucci gown at the LACMA Art+Film Gala. The striking purple amethyst and diamond cross became another high-profile example of Kardashian wearing a piece of jewelry with a famous previous owner.

The reality TV star has also worn Elizabeth Taylor’s Mike Todd diamond chandelier earrings during a Balenciaga runway appearance.

Now, with Jenner stepping out in Taylor’s archival cape after her daughter wore the same look for All’s Fair, the family’s fascination with fashion history has once again sparked a debate over whether wearing legendary pieces is a tribute to their original owners or simply a way to court attention.
