Tom Cruise Sports White Hair & Old Age Makeup In New' Digger' Trailer

The Top Gun icon is leaving fans doing a double-take with his newest character transformation for Digger.

The actor, who is best known for his clean-cut action hero roles, looks unrecognizable in the first full trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu's upcoming dark comedy, as he's decked out in old age makeup, gray-white hair, prosthetics, and a slightly heavier appearance. Tom has even described the role as one of the most challenging of his career.

In the trailer, which follows his character, billionaire Digger Rockwell, in all of his eccentric glory as he navigates challenges disrupting his life as an oil tycoon. You can see the entire trailer here. The movie is slated to hit theaters on October 2nd of this year.

Social Media Users React To Tom's Transformation

The trailer has had the internet buzzing this summer, as previous teaser trailers didn't show the full effects of Tom's old age makeup and more, only showing a figure slightly galavanting around, never revealing his face.

Across social media platforms, many users weighed in on how the white hair, wrinkles, "heavy makeup," and larger physique made the actor almost impossible to recognize at first. Many also noted that this is one of the most dramatic transformations he's taken on since his character in Tropic Thunder, Les Grossman, where he sported a balding head and large stomach.

One YouTube commenter joked that the character was "Tom Cruise soft-launching his relationship with old age," as another called it "the biggest physical transformation Tom Cruise has done since Tropic Thunder."

"This is the kind of weird, original filmmaking that we used to get in the '80s and '90s," a user reacted to the trailer. "Just don't forget -- Tom has been there all along, taking risks and swinging for the fences. Can't wait to see this one ON THE BIG SCREEN."

"Haven't seen Tom Cruise in a new character since Les Grossman, you can tell this is going to be legendary!" added a fan.

"The Tom Cruise Oscar campaign is going to be legendary," commented another.
