When you get an iPhone, it can be super exciting to see all the different apps that come with it. For a little while, that is.
A common issue that many iPhone users face is running out of storage space, which can happen for a multitude of reasons. When you run out of storage space, your phone can start lagging and experience other difficulties while functioning. If you’re looking for ways to make some room on your phone, you might want to begin by getting rid of some preinstalled apps you likely don’t need anymore. Read more about four of them below.

1. Leaving 'Background App Refresh' On
Many users think that when they exit out of an app on their iPhone or lock their phone, the app automatically stops all of its activity. However, that's not always the case, especially for busy apps like social media or news ones.
"The biggest hidden drains are Background App Refresh," says tech expert Steven Athwal. "If it's enabled, it'll update your apps even if you aren't using them. Social media, email, and news apps can repeatedly check for updates throughout the day, which keeps the phone's processor and network active. Turning this off for non-essential apps can really reduce passive battery drain."

2. GarageBand
GarageBand was once a fascinating tool for iPhone users, whether or not they had experience in making music. If you wanted to dip your toe into songwriting or music production, at some point, it might've been a nifty tool.
But for many iPhone users, that interest fades after a while, or they begin to use better equipment or applications on other devices to create even better music. Holding onto the GarageBand app can keep lots of extra data on your phone that you don't need.

3. iMovie
Similar to GarageBand, iMovie was once a big deal when it came to preinstalled iPhone apps. Not only was it great for crafting short films, but it also occasionally comes in handy for students who have to make videos for classes. However, if you're not a filmmaker and don't anticipate needing to make a movie anytime soon, it's a good idea to ditch it.
iMovie can hold onto a lot more data and memory than most users realize, so if it's sitting on your phone fully downloaded, it can make a big difference in how much storage you have.

4. Maps
Now, having a map or some kind of navigation app on your iPhone is quite important, especially if you like to travel, commute for work, or live in a large city where it can be easy to get lost.
If you use your map almost every day or at least several times a week, then there's a good chance you use one that's not the preinstalled Maps app. These days, most people are using Waze, Google Maps, CityMapper, etc. Therefore, if you have a different go-to, you can delete Apple Maps to save some space.
