Meghan Markle recently went out for a public event with the Girl Scouts of America, which isn’t so wholesome in the eyes of her biggest critics.

The Duchess of Sussex made a special visit to a Girl Scout camp in California, where she interacted with some young girls and recalled her time as a Girl Scout. However, since the event also served as a moment to screen the documentary film she helped create, Cookie Queens, after pictures and videos were shared on social media, users accused her of ‘using’ the organization for more fame, leaving snarky comments on various platforms. Read more about her viral visit to the Girl Scout camp and how the internet reacted to it below.

Meghan Markle Visits A Girl Scout Camp In California To Screen Her 'Cookie Queens' Documentary

Although she may not be a working royal anymore, the As Ever founder is continuing to attend events and make appearances as if she were.

On Wednesday, July 29th, Meghan made a special visit to a Girl Scout camp in Ojai, California, where she surprised the large group of young campers, many of whom were decked out in their sashes, vests, and badges. The event served as an opportunity for the influential figure to meet some young girls and women, but she was also there to sit in for a screening of Cookie Queens, a new documentary film that also happens to be her and Prince Harry's production company, Archewell's, first theatrical release.

The film follows a handful of real-life Girl Scouts as they experience cookie-selling season, learning many of the skills the Girl Scouts of America promote, like leadership, confidence, and more. It is due to hit theaters on August 7th, which is why the former working duchess is out and about promoting it. She also mentioned in previous press statements that she and Harry took on the project due to how it struck a personal chord with her, as a former Girl Scout.

"It's incredible filmmaking, and I can't wait for you to see it. I think people are going to love it," she told People at the Sundance Film Festival.

Social Media Users React To Meghan's Girl Scout Camp Visit

After pictures and videos of the Suits actress were shared on social media, like most news updates about her, it didn't take long for them to go viral. This was a rare moment when she made a notable public appearance for something Archewell Productions was working on, and also got to interact with an audience of people.

There were many social media users and fans of hers and Harry's who felt that her visit to the Girl Scout camp was wholesome and sweet, especially considering how she used to be one. However, there were numerous other internet users who found the visit to be insincere and accused her of only doing it for more 'clout' or to promote the documentary film for an event she knew would be photographed.

"[There's] always something in it for Meghan!" commented an Instagram user.

"Did folks in the comments miss that this is Meghan's documentary?" responded another. "And of course, photographers were there. Because it was an official screening of the film. And for the millionth time, they never asked for complete privacy, nor for hermitude."

"Using children to promote herself, what a surprise," wrote a user.

"Always with the photographers," added another.
