Vice President JD Vance’s latest Halloween costume has brought renewed attention to an old photo that continues to leave social media users talking.
The father of four dressed as Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series for Halloween this year, complete with a long silver-gray wig, a round wizard hat, and a matching silver robe.
In a video shared online, he appeared alongside his infant son, Alec, who was dressed as the house-elf Dobby, while his wife, Usha, wore a Sorting Hat costume. Vance later revealed that he chose the outfit after losing a bet with his children.

But while his latest look got people talking, many social media users quickly brought up another costume from his past.
Around 2011 or 2012, while attending Yale Law School, Vance reportedly wore a blonde wig and a skirt to a party along with his signature "heavy" eyeliner.
Photos from the gathering resurfaced on social media during the 2024 presidential campaign, drawing widespread attention.
Vance’s representatives acknowledged that he had worn a wig to a college party, describing the incident as "not exactly scandalous".
However, critics have continued to bring up the photos, arguing that they clash with his later political positions and public criticism of drag performances and LGBTQ+ policies.

Vance has since adopted socially conservative positions on several LGBTQ+ issues, including opposing same-sex marriage and transgender rights.
Reports and accounts from his time at Yale have also highlighted a more moderate side of his earlier views, including his past support for a transgender friend’s transition and attendance at Pride events. As the old photos made another round online, social media users were quick to share their reactions.
“She wants to be a girl so bad,” one person wrote.
“JD's been dying to do this again,” another joked.
“That’s not a Halloween costume. That’s an excuse to dress in drag,” a third claimed.
Someone else said on Reddit, "The hypocrisy is predictable at this point. Nothing wrong with what he is doing then. Everything is wrong about what he is saying now."
