Ryan Reynolds Reveals He's Returning To The Marvel Universe During Fanatics Fest

It's no secret that one of the biggest moments in the Canadian actor's career was when he began playing the popular Marvel Comics antihero, Deadpool, in 2016, with the first film grossing hundreds of millions of dollars.

The last major Deadpool release, Deadpool & Wolverine, came out in 2024, and after it had a successful premiere, it was unclear as to what the future for the character would be. In the two years following, Ryan found himself wrapped up in a Hollywood scandal, after his wife, Blake Lively, entered an intense and reputation-damaging legal battle with her It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni.

Last weekend, he was a notable guest at the 2026 Fanatics Fest, the large convention held at the Javits Center in New York City. During a panel, he opened up about returning to Marvel to create some more work, including another film for his famous character.

"There's a few really deep cuts that I think are missing from the movies," he said in a fan video posted to Instagram. "I think there's a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics."

Ryan also stated that the Deadpool co-creator, Fabian Nicieza, wrote some "incredible" material, along with comic writer Gerry Duggan, that hadn't seen the light of day yet.

"There's stuff upcoming," he continued. "There's eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It's going to be great."

Fans React To Ryan's News On Social Media

After a fan video of the Proposal star talking about his upcoming plans with the massive film production company was shared on social media platforms like Instagram and X, it didn't take long for users to start weighing in on the idea of him making a comeback.

Despite him playing a super popular character in several films, Ryan himself has taken quite a hit to his career and reputation, most notably when he got involved in his wife's lawsuit drama, which presented evidence that didn't necessarily paint him in the best light.

Additionally, while Marvel Studios hasn't officially announced the film or revealed when fans can expect Deadpool's return, the actor's comments added to the excitement that's been building around Marvel's upcoming projects, with many viewers wondering about where Deadpool will fit in the new stories.

"Glad to hear it!" responded a fan on X. "I'm more than happy to see them add more X-Men, and there are a lot of possible villains to use. Bring it on!"

"Omg, yay, I thought they weren't gonna make anymore," wrote another.

"I'm so emotional right now," responded an excited fan on Instagram.
