Donald Trump Renames US Institute of Peace
After about nine months of near vacancy, The US Institute of Peace has re-emerged, revealing a new name: The Donald J. Trump United States Institute of Peace. This move comes one day before Trump hosts the presidents of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to sign a peace deal, and not only has he renamed it on paper, he’s added his name in large silver letters to two exterior sides of the building.
Back in March, Elon Musk, through the Department of Government Efficiency, all but shut down the organization. He seized the building, fired most of the staff, and even dismantled a fixture inside with the institute’s name and logo: a dove and an olive branch. George Foote, a former lawyer from the institute who’s now involved in a lawsuit against the administration, said in a statement: “renaming the USIP building adds insult to injury.”

Across social media platforms, users have expressed their outrage at the move from Trump, who's taken credit for ending a number of conflicts worldwide since taking office earlier this year in an effort to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. "What an unbelievable joke," one user wrote. "His most ludicrous move yet."
"They need to pull that freaking name right off that building!" another person wrote.
"So looking forward to when we can scrap every reminder of this warped, egotistical, narcissist grifter from every building, bridge, park, airport, or truck stop that bears his name," another comment reads. "Can't come soon enough."
