Billie Eilish is getting ready to make her on-screen debut and is unafraid to transform herself in order to do so.
The award-winning musician traded her signature oversized streetwear for a polished 1950s-inspired ensemble while filming her feature film acting debut in The Bell Jar, leaving fans stunned by her dramatic transformation. After paparazzi snuck some on-set photos and videos of Billie in her retro clothes, sporting brown hair, it didn’t take long for fans and other social media users to begin chiming in on how different she looked, and how committed to the character she looked.
Billie Eilish Undergoes Retro Transformation For Film Debut
The Grammy winner is proving she can pull off just about any aesthetic this week, as she’s abandoned her signature style for a special project.
She ditched her go-to aesthetic, oversized outfits, for clean-cut, old-school fashion while filming The Bell Jar. For the film, inspired by the iconic novel by Sylvia Plath, Billie will be playing the role of Esther Greenwood, the story’s protagonist. The film, which is garnering a lot of mixed feedback, does not have an official release date yet but could potentially hit theaters in 2027. This week, she was photographed on set in Toronto wearing a series of retro outfits.
On set, Billie was photographed in a short-sleeve knit top that was tucked into a high-waisted pleated skirt featuring a red, cream, and gray print. The look was accessorized with classic pearl stud earrings and bold red lipstick that perfectly complemented the vibrant ensemble. Perhaps the biggest transformation, however, was her hair, as she swapped her extra dark locks for a warm chestnut-brown shade.

Fans React To Billie's Character Transformation
Once the paparazzi photos that were taken during the filming process were released this week, it didn't take long for fans of the singer and other internet users to start weighing in on both her look and her casting in it.
Since the film made its casting announcement, revealing that the "Bad Guy" singer would be playing the story's protagonist, some were concerned about it, given her lack of experience with acting. However, after seeing her transformation for the role, some might be changing their tune.
"Hmmm, I can see it," commented an Instagram user. "I'll allow it."
"Do I think this book should have been a movie? Nope," wrote another. "People lack the media literacy for that. That being said, the setting and the costuming? 10/10 cannot wait."
"Exactly how I pictured the character in the book," commented a user. "Casting 10/10."
"I didn't even recognize her," wrote a fan about Billie's look, as another added, "She certainly looks the part."
