Android users, like any smartphone user, know how annoying it can be when your battery feels like it’s constantly draining.

There are a lot of things that can contribute to an Android’s battery draining, from the type of charger you use to how full your storage is. However, if you feel like no matter what you do, you never have enough battery life, you might want to look at your device’s settings, as they can end up having a bigger impact on your charge than you think. 1. Adaptive Battery

If you have a newer Android phone, you should take advantage of the adaptive battery setting, as it can help maintain your device's battery life throughout the day, based on how you use it.

"The first setting I'd recommend is Adaptive Battery, if you're on a newer Android release," says tech pro John Jusko. "This setting allows your phone to learn about your usage patterns to optimize battery usage. It's particularly useful for reducing background battery drain from apps you may rarely use, without universally disabling background policies."

2. Disable App Background Usage

There's a similar setting on iPhones, Background App Refresh, which, when turned on, makes sure that your apps and feeds are up to date even when you're not using them. While that's convenient, it is a feature that can drain your battery without you even knowing.

"Manually, the second setting I'd recommend is going into your App battery usage pane, and directly disabling background usage for apps that you don't need live monitoring or notifications from," adds Jusko. "A lot of apps come with hidden background processes that can drain your battery slowly."

3. Automatic Screen-Off

A lot of people fail to realize just how much their Android's display, or any smartphone's display, can make a difference in how long their battery life lasts.

"Third, and most importantly in my book, turning on the automatic screen-off feature," notes Jusko. "This feature allows your screen to automatically turn off if the phone has detected it's been put in a pocket or somewhere where the display isn't visible - it's saved me many times when I've accidentally put my phone away with the screen off."
