Donald Trump Jr. Says Ohio Isn’t A State During Rally Speech
Donald Trump Jr. made the remarks on November 2 while campaigning alongside Vice President JD Vance at a rally in Ohio, in the final stretch before the 2026 midterm elections. During his speech, Trump Jr. was criticizing Democrats and listing what he described as their political priorities, including expanding the Supreme Court and granting Washington, D.C., statehood.
However, while making his argument, he appeared to mix up the two places, telling the crowd: “They want to pack the Supreme Court. They want to make Ohio a state, make D.C. a state, have permanent one-party rule, all apparently. I don’t know how it works, but, you know, they can do these things and get away with it. All in the name of somehow preserving democracy.”
Ultimately, Trump Jr.’s efforts to rally support for Ohio Republicans appeared to fall flat, as Democrats scored major victories across the state. Amy Acton defeated Trump-backed Vivek Ramaswamy to flip the governor’s office blue for the first time since 2006, while Sherrod Brown defeated incumbent Republican Jon Husted to flip Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat back to Democrats.

Social Media Reactions
Across social media platforms, users were quick to mock the president's son for his take on Ohio's statehood, leaving comments like, "Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree" and "He is his father‘s son!"
"Who's gonna tell him Ohio is already a state," joked another.
"This is what a degree from Trump University gets ya," another user wrote.
"Tell me you didn’t pass sixth grade geography without telling me you didn’t pass sixth grade geography," another comment reads.
"Not very bright this one…..," said the next.
"Clearly got his intelligence from his father," wrote another user.
"Well, his daddy does love the poorly educated," a final user wrote. "I guess that starts at home!"
