Miranda Lambert just opened up about her 2015 divorce from Blake Shelton in a new podcast episode, admitting that it was “a really not fun time” in her life, particularly because they were both in the public eye at the time.
Both singers faced cheating allegations during their marriage and around the time of their split, although they previously denied rumors of infidelity, and neither has publicly cited cheating as the reason for their divorce. The former couple divorced on July 20th, 2015, after four years of marriage and roughly a decade together.
During an October 27th appearance on songwriter Ross Golan’s podcast And The Writer Is…, the “Gunpowder & Lead” singer, 42, reflected on how difficult the divorce was, especially as she was on tour at the time. However, she also revealed how she channelled her “misery” into songwriting, writing approximately 75 songs following her split from the 50-year-old “God’s Country” singer. Miranda Lambert Opens Up About Her ‘Really Not Fun’ Divorce From Blake Shelton
“I got divorced and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye, especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career — two of us — you know what I mean? It just was a really not fun time,” the “Mama’s Broken Heart” singer confessed.
Rather than dwelling on the difficult experience, Lambert explained that she threw herself into songwriting after moving back to Nashville, using her personal struggles as inspiration for new music…

The Grammy-winning singer, who went on to marry former police officer Brendan McLoughlin in January 2019 after meeting him on Good Morning America in 2018, said she "used the misery" from her divorce and "dove headfirst into songwriting," turning her "raw emotion" into music.
"When I moved back in 2015, I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from all of the previous years and just used it, used the misery," she recalled.
"I used the staying out too late at honky-tonks. I used what I was living, and my friends went on that journey with me – friends being songwriters. And I think I wrote 75 songs."

Miranda Lambert Says Her Divorce Helped Her Grow As A Songwriter
Those experiences helped shape her sixth studio album, The Weight of These Wings, which was released in November 2016. The "Bluebird" singer went on to explain that working on the album was a very different experience from making her previous album, Platinum. She recalled previously coming to Nashville to write specifically for a record before leaving again, whereas this time, she was drawing directly from her everyday life.
Although it was a challenging period personally, Lambert admitted that it was also a rewarding one creatively. "And it was kind of magical," she explained, "because I really started growing my songwriting then. It wasn't writing towards a specific record or a sound or whatever. It was, like, raw emotion."
"And I think I really grew as a vocalist and a songwriter," the "Alimony" singer continued, "because I spent so much of my downtime with a guitar in my hand for the first time, you know? And it was worth it. It was worth laying it out there."

What Have Miranda Lambert And Blake Shelton Previously Said About Their Divorce?
Lambert and Shelton announced their divorce in July 2015, releasing a joint statement confirming that they had decided to go their separate ways.
Their split came amid years of speculation about their marriage, with cheating allegations involving both singers making headlines. Neither was proven to have been unfaithful, and country singer Chris Young, who was linked to Lambert in some reports, publicly denied having anything to do with their divorce.
At the time, they said: "This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately."
During a September 2015 interview on The Bobby Bones Show, Shelton, who married Gwen Stefani in July 2021, also reflected on their split, revealing how quickly the divorce proceedings had unfolded. He said: "Miranda and I didn't have any kids, and we had a prenuptial agreement, whatever we had. Once we filed for divorce, it was over in, like, I think it was a nine or 10-day waiting period until it's over."
Lambert also explained to People in 2019 that her divorce helped her find out what she wants in a relationship and gave her the confidence to go for it. "I feel like I've been through enough in my life to know what I don't want, so when I know what I do want I snatch it right up."
