Last week, on Tuesday, July 28th, notable figures and politicians gathered at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. for the funeral of Lindsey Graham, who represented South Carolina in Congress from 1995 through 2026.
There were a lot of notable moments during the funeral, from speeches to things caught on camera in the pews, as the entire event was livestreamed on multiple news stations. One moment people talked about a lot afterward was the president’s slightly unconventional and head-turning eulogy, where he said things about not everyone “liking” his departed colleague and turning attention towards himself and his presidency.
However, another viral moment people are continuing to talk about is when the livestreaming cameras seemingly caught the 80-year-old Commander in Chief dozing off, with his eyes gradually closing. Though it’s not the first time he’s been seen dozing off during an event, sometimes doing it in the Oval Office during press conferences, many internet users could not get over him falling asleep at someone’s funeral, and they bashed him over it on social media platforms.
“Did he fall asleep after he sat down?” wrote an Instagram user. “He looks like he’s struggling to.”
“Sleepy Donald!” joked another.

White House Spokesperson Denies Claims Trump Fell Asleep As Users Clap Back
The day following the senator's funeral, people from the Trump administration made it clear they were not happy with the word spreading about the president potentially drifting off to sleep.
It's no secret that the current president's administration is typically at the ready to defend him, but this is one of the first times they've quickly fired back about his falling asleep. In a statement for People, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle was quick to shut down rumors that Trump had dozed off during the funeral.
"[He] was reflecting on the loss of his dear friend Lindsey Graham, for whom he had just delivered a beautiful eulogy," Ingle wrote. "Anyone suggesting otherwise is a depraved moron."
After the statement was released, it didn't take long for social media users to retaliate, posting comments about how they felt as though Ingle and other White House speakers were gaslighting them and trying to cover up another sleeping incident.
"Regardless of the fact that there are videos to prove it," responded an Instagram user. "He also falls asleep during meetings. During press conferences. During the Knicks game. During his UFC White House birthday party. During the UN summit. What did I miss?"
"Yes, our eyes are lying to us!" joked another.
"Trying to convince Americans that we didn't see what was right in front of us," accused a user. "Always lying."
One user called the White House's response another example of "continued gaslighting."
"So tired of it all," they continued.
"Everyone saw it!" a user added. "So, they can deny all they want. We have eyes!"
