Anne Hathaway is making various headlines with her highly praised role in The Odyssey, but there are some pop culture lovers who want to boycott the film altogether due to a resurfaced clip of hers.
The Oscar-winner is under fire on social media platforms like X after a clip of her receiving the 2018 National Ally for Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign resurfaced and went viral. Her speech, which had her bringing up her rights as a woman and how many societies function around inequality, ended up bringing out some outrage from more right-leaning social media users who felt she was too focused on ‘biology’ and wasn’t making sense. Things got so heated that a handful of users even expressed wanting to skip the new Christopher Nolan film because of it. Read more about her viral speech and how the internet reacted below.

Anne Hathaway's National Ally for Equality Award Speech Goes Viral On X
Right now, some of the most trending names in pop culture are the cast members of Christopher Nolan's latest film, The Odyssey, which people from around the world are flocking to see in theaters.
Anne Hathaway is the film's female lead, playing Penelope, and is currently receiving a lot of praise from both film critics and audience members. However, because her name is so often in the headlines right now, making waves with her performance, pregnancy, press tour moments, etc., there are other bits and pieces of her career that are beginning to resurface from years ago.
One of those moments is when she was awarded the National Ally for Equality Award in 2018 by the famous LGBTQ+ organization, the Human Rights Campaign. While accepting the award, the Les Misérables star spoke passionately about gender roles and inequality, and the video of her speech gained some traction online.
"It is important to acknowledge that, with the exception of being a cisgender male, everything about how I was born has put me at the current center of a damaging and widely accepted myth," she said during her speech. "That myth is that gayness orbits around straightness, transgender orbits around cisgender, and that all races orbit around whiteness. This myth is wrong. But this myth is too real for too many. It is ancient, so it is trusted. It is a habit, so it's assumed to be the way things are...And it is a myth that keeps money and power in the hands of the few, instead of being invested in the lives of the free."

Right-Wing Social Media Users Slam Anne's Recirculating Speech On X
Though it happened nearly ten years ago, with her new boost in fame with The Odyssey, the speech was reposted and began recirculating on X, after a conservative, right-leaning account reposted it.
Suddenly, there were users in the replies who began bashing the actress, not agreeing with her sentiments, writing messages about how she was too focused on "biology" and more, with even big figures like Elon Musk and FOX's Tomi Lahren weighing in on it.
"Oh, look, a white savior," commented an X user. "And you know she thinks she is being so profound."
"Never watching her movies again!" added another.
Elon Musk responded to the video of her speech, writing, "She's just reading the script someone else wrote. No critical thinking is happening here at all."
"A reminder that her standing up there on her perch in her fancy gown and updo delivering this self-righteous lecture cost her absolutely zero," added political commentator Tomi Lahren. "She makes no sacrifice. She loses nothing. Yet, she is hailed as brave and bold. For what? Words."
"It is costing her a loss of respect by many of her fans, or should I say former fans," responded a user. "I was once a fan, but no longer."
