Bernie Sanders is under fire for his use of private jets, despite being a climate change activist. During his Fighting Oligarchy tour around the United States, the Vermont native spent over $600,000 private jets, chauffeured cars, and upscale hotels, which for many social media users makes him a “hypocrite” and a “fraud” for preaching about the importance of stopping climate change. Bernie Sanders Takes Private Jets To Political Rallies To Speak On Climate Change
An investigation from The Center Square revealed that Friends of Bernie Sanders, his principal campaign committee, has paid $562,117 for 11 private jet trips, $16,633 for chauffeured car rides, and $29,064 to stay at a four-star hotel 15 times.
His private jet trips roughly translates to somewhere between 90–180 metric tons of CO₂ emitted in total, which, by comparison is equivalent to the annual carbon footprint of roughly 10–20 average Americans.
Worse yet, Sanders doesn't seem to have any remorse. Speaking to Fox News last year, he said, "You run a campaign, and you do three or four or five rallies a week. [It is] the only way you can get around to talk to 30,000 people. You think I'm gonna be sitting on a waiting line at United … while 30,000 people are waiting?"

Social Media Reactions
Across social media platforms, users haven't been afraid to express their outrage. "Here’s the biggest hypocrite on the planet," one person wrote on Instagram. "Bernie is a fraud!"
"Your actions trump your words," another person wrote. "Guess climate change is just for the poor folks."
"He's a hypocrite," agreed another. "He says you should curtail your lifestyle for the earth's climate, while he does the exact opposite. Typical."
"Rules for thee and not for me," said another. "What an oligarch he's become."
"Fighting the oligarchy with private jets," said the next.
"I'm sick of members of Congress acting as if they are nobility," said another. "Have them fly commercial in the cheap seats like their constituents. Bernie is a good example of the grift. After never working and living off the gov't teat, he's a multi-millionaire. Disgusting. GOP too."
