Donald Trump's 'American Flag Blue' Reflecting Pool Turns Green
Changing the color of the reflecting pool was just one of many projects included in his multi-million dollar "beautification" efforts. He had the historic landmark drained and painted blue before being refilled, and the water was a rich blue color for a few days before it turned bright green.
Algae blooms have completely taken over the pool, turning it into an unpleasant shade of green. Steve Goodale, a Canadian swimming pool specialist known online as Swimming Pool Steve, explained the science behind it: "The new, darker interior surface is going to absorb more sunlight," he said. "It is going to result in water that's warmer, and that ultimately is going to lead to more prolific algae growth."
Social Media Reactions
Many social media users who thought the project was a waste of funds in the first place were furious to learn that the science behind turning the pool a darker shade wasn't thought of in the first place. "Can taxpayers get a refund?" one user asked on Instagram.
"We could have had healthcare and food," another person pointed out.
"I know a money funneling scheme when I see one," said a third person.
"Perfectly sums up this disaster of an administration," agreed the next. "$14M wasted."
"It's reflecting alright!" said another. "It's reflecting the incompetence of Donald Trump!"
