Michelle Obama paid tribute to her late mother, Marian Robinson, by wearing a skirt featuring her portrait at a stakeholders event for the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on Tuesday, June 16th.
The former First Lady and author of The Look, 62, wore a midi pencil skirt from Acne’s Fall/Winter 2026 collection, which featured a sepia-toned image of her mother, who passed away in 2024. The touching tribute moved many people, including her husband, Barack Obama.

The image on the skirt was reportedly commissioned by the Becoming author's longtime stylist, Meredith Koop. The portrait showed Robinson posing for the camera with a soft smile, while wearing round statement earrings.
The IMO podcast host accessorized the skirt with a simple black T-shirt, a waist-cinching thin black belt, and chocolate Saint Laurent slingback pumps, allowing the skirt to command all of the attention.
Michelle placed a hand on her husband as he wiped away tears during her speech at the event, where she also revealed that he was overcome with emotion when he first saw the skirt.

She said: "I am so proud of my husband. He's really messed up. I'm giving him some time, because this beautiful skirt that my stylist Meredith Koop picked out, that is a portrait – my favorite portrait of my mom – he didn't know it existed until just a few minutes ago."
"I've had a few weeks to settle down in the beauty of this skirt, but it's messing him up for good reason," the mom-of-two continued, adding: "But Marian would have been so proud, she was so proud of her son-in-law and the man that he is and has been to our family, always dreaming probably way too big, but always pulling it off. Thank you for doing this for the South Side of Chicago, I love you."
