Stagecoach Festival was in full swing this weekend—but it wasn’t just the music that had people talking. An unexpected father-son moment ended up stealing the spotlight.

Tom Hanks was spotted at the festival on Saturday, April 25, showing support for his son Chet Hanks and his band, Something Out West.

In a video captured by festivalgoer Keren Ashri, the Forrest Gump star could be seen dressed for the occasion in a wide-brim gray hat, matching jacket, and dark-wash jeans. He stood in the crowd, casually bopping his head along as his son performed on stage. He fully embraced the Western, California desert-themed dress code for the event.

Chet and his group performed their track “You Better Run,” with the music video reportedly paying homage to his dad’s iconic 1994 film Forrest Gump.

Ashri later shared her experience with People, saying, “10 minutes into the show, I noticed him and freaked out honestly. I couldn’t believe he was standing right there next to me! He was enjoying watching his son.”

“I finally gathered the courage and went to introduce myself and said I’m a huge fan, and he was very kind and gracious,” she added. “A few more members in the crowd noticed him after the show was over, and he was very gracious to take a few pictures with the fans.”

Naturally, the wholesome moment didn’t go unnoticed online. Social media users flooded comment sections with reactions, with one Reddit user writing, “Classic dad pose right there,” while another chimed in, “Loved his proud dad head wobble.”

Others praised the supportive moment, with one person noting, “The test of being a great dad is whether you can love and show up for your goofiest son,” and another adding, “And he dressed for the occasion! What a cute lil hat.”

Some comments also poked fun at Chet’s path, with one user writing, “Oh to be a nepo baby and just explore art and different careers willy nilly,” while another summed up the vibe: “This is so wholesome. Look how thrilled his dad is.”

Chet Hanks, born Chester Marlon Hanks on August 4, 1990, is an actor and musician. He’s known for appearing in TV series like Empire, Shameless, and Your Honor, and is now pursuing music as a member of his band.

Over the years, he’s been candid about his journey to sobriety and the challenges of growing up in the spotlight with famous parents.

He has described growing up with his A-list parents as a “double-edged sword” and has often referred to himself as the “black sheep” of the family due to various public controversies, including past substance abuse struggles and social media backlash, which contrast with his father’s widely respected public image.

His Oscar-winning dad has four children: Colin, Elizabeth, Chet, and Truman. He shares two children—Colin and Elizabeth—with his first wife, Samantha Lewes, and two sons—Chet and Truman—with his current wife, Rita Wilson.
