If you’re an Android user, you know how crucial it is for your battery to be charged at all times, and not drain all the way to nearly dying during most of the day.

When you have a smartphone battery that never seems to hold a charge, you can go through your day with a lot of anxiety, unsure if you’ll be able to get everything done that you need to throughout the day. There’s also the anxiety surrounding not being able to call or text someone during an emergency. Therefore, it’s best to practice safe and effective charging habits. Using information from tech experts, we’re listing two Android charging habits you should quit in order to help your battery last longer.

The Difference Between Dragging Through Your Day And Feeling Great On Your Feet? These Arch Support Insoles

1. Letting Your Phone Charge Overnight & In Hot Spaces

There are a whole lot of people who can't imagine their nighttime routine without plugging their phone in before bed, leaving it on the charger until morning, and maybe even keeping their phone in bed with them, under a blanket or pillow. Though these things might not seem like a big deal, they can be a fairly killer combination for your battery.

"Avoid letting an Android phone sit at 100% charge overnight. especially under a pillow or in a warm case," explains tech pro Seymour Segnit. "At high voltage and elevated temperature, lithium-ion batteries degrade much more rapidly! Android smartphones have better battery performance than before, but heat remains the biggest cause of gradual battery degradation - which means charging itself, on a purely technical level, isn't the main issue."

2. Using Cheap Or Incompatible Chargers

Most smartphone users, whether they have an iPhone or an Android, like to have numerous chargers on hand. After all, it's nice to have one in all the common spaces you use, like your office, car, living room, bedroom, etc. There's also a good chance that not all of those chargers come from their phone's manufacturer, and they're using third-party chargers. Though that's understandable, some 'cheap' chargers can do more harm than good.

"Using low-quality charging cables or uncertified chargers is another habit Android users should avoid," says tech pro Ronika Kashyap. Poorly made chargers may deliver inconsistent voltage or generate excess heat, both of which can damage the battery and internal components over time. Heat is one of the biggest enemies of smartphone battery health. Certified chargers from reputable brands are generally safer because they include protections against overheating, overcharging, and power fluctuations. Fast charging itself is usually safe on modern Android devices, but it's important to use accessories designed for your phone's specifications."
