Miley Cyrus Reflects On Getting Sober In New Magazine Interview
The Tennessee native has had quite the busy spring so far, being thrust back into the spotlight almost a year after her latest album release to promote and star in the 20th anniversary special for Hannah Montana, the show that made her a household name.
In addition to filming the special, where she took a trip down memory lane during on-set interviews and castmate reunions, she sat down for a few interviews where she reflected on her life before and after being a Disney star. While speaking to Variety, Miley opened up on her decision to become sober during the COVID-19 pandemic after years of drinking and using certain drugs.
"It's no surprise that I had my experiences with drugs and alcohol," she said, referring to her fame at a young age. "I was so used to living at a high, and I don't think I ever learned how to come down from that. Now, through a sober lens, I can have compassion and understanding for myself."

Fans React To Miley's Comments On Sobriety
It took a little while for the 33-year-old to get used to being sober, especially after years of facing waves of public backlash for her choices, much of which stemmed from a leaked video of her smoking salvia with friends in 2010.
In addition to making healthier lifestyle choices, Miley took up the form of psychotherapy, EMDR, to treat her anxiety and figure out its source, which she says helped her get through the live taping of the Hannah Montana special.
"You didn't see any nerves, right?" she asked. "In the past, that would have taken over my entire body. I would have been frozen."
After fans read her Variety interview and her comments on getting sober, they cheered her on via social media platforms like Instagram.
"This is what evolution and growth look like," commented a fan. "You are allowed to love all versions of yourself and learn from them."
"So proud of what Hannah & Miley have grown up to be!" added another.
One user wrote that Miley was "another sober beauty," as one added, "I'm so proud of her."
