The rain began shortly after Charles and Camilla arrived at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium for the annual Independence Ceremonial Parade. The event marked 45 years since Antigua and Barbuda gained independence from Britain in 1981, and featured a military procession with dozens of uniformed personnel gathered on the cricket pitch. When the heavy downpour began, Camilla was quickly handed a clear umbrella and moved toward the covered royal seating area, while Charles remained outside on the exposed platform. He could be seen throwing his hands up and gesturing toward members of his entourage as he waited for someone to bring him an umbrella.
The moment got even more attention after professional lip reader Nicola Hickling analyzed the footage and shared her interpretation of the exchange. In an interview with Tyla, Hickling said Camilla appeared to ask for an umbrella before telling Charles, “I’m getting rather wet.”
