Over 12,000 pounds of bacon distributed by Maple Leaf Foods Inc. across three states has been recalled after improper inspection, the USDA reports.

Amidst all the warnings about lettuce during the cyclospora outbreak, it can be easy to forget about all the other recalls taking place. While everyone is worried about vegetables, this recent mishap indicates that you might want to check the label on your bacon, too. Bacon imported from Canada, labeled as Royale Natural Applewood Smoked and TOP VALU, is being recalled due to inspection issues. Learn more below.

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Bacon Recall

Wake up and smell the bacon—or, actually, just throw it out.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) reports that Maple Leaf Foods Inc. has recalled 12,036 pounds of refrigerated bacon that was imported from Canada. This bacon did not receive re-inspection when it touched down in the United States. This is a requirement for imported foods.

This bacon was produced on June 9, June 10, June 12, June 13, and June 15 of 2026. It was distributed to stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

To find out if you have a recalled product, check the label. Recalled bacon was distributed in 12-ounce vacuum packages, labeled as the following:

  • Royale Natural Applewood Smoked ALL NATURAL Uncured Bacon Product of Canada. Sell by: of Sep. 1, 2026, and Sep. 7, 2026.
  • TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon PRODUCT OF CANADA. Sell-by: Sep. 1, 2026, Sep. 2, 2026, Sep. 4, 2026, Sep. 5, 2026, and Sep. 7, 2026.

The good news is that there have been no illnesses linked to these products. However, if you are in possession of the recalled bacon, the FSIS says you should refrain from eating it and instead throw it away or return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

Staying on top of recalls like this is an important part of keeping you and your family safe and healthy.
