Jessica Simpson Performs Her New Music While Wearing A Sequined Dress On 'American Idol'

On Sunday, May 18th, the 44-year-old performed during the highly anticipated finale episode of American Idol, which marked her first time performing on live television in 15 years.

As a part of the special final episode segments, she walked on stage in a stunning silver sequined gown with slightly revealing cutouts and a long leg slit down the skirt. She also debuted a new dirty blonde hair color and wore her locks down with a soft wave. Her shiny, sequined dress was completed with a Western-inspired silver belt with blue stones in it and strappy, metallic platform heels from her shoe brand.

The Dukes of Hazzard actress took her place on stage to sing two songs for the singing competition show's audience and viewers at home. The first was her new single, "Blame Me," from her latest E.P Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1. The second was a fun performance of her 2005 cover of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," one of her most well-known songs. She sang her famous cover alongside former American Idol contestant Josh King.

This was a notable event for the former reality star, as not only was it her first live performance for television in over a decade, but it also gave viewers a better idea of what's to come as she releases more music. However, some internet users and fans of the show were not pleased with her comeback performance.

Internet Users Say Jessica's Performance On 'American Idol' Was 'Horrible'

As the finale episode of the singing competition was aired, viewers took to social media to comment on Jessica's singing and new song, and many were not impressed by the quality of her voice or the way she stood on stage.

One viral post on X included a photograph of current judge Luke Bryan watching Jessica sing, and the user wrote, "Luke's face during that Jessica Simpson performance is the epitome of cringe."

"She didn't do herself any favors with whatever that was," added another X user.

"Why was she there?" asked a user. "She was awful."

It looks like viewers on other platforms like Instagram shared the same sentiments, as after a video of Jessica singing "Blame Me" was posted to the show's profile, more commenters wrote about her appearance, which they deemed "horrible."

"I'm sorry, but I think she sounds horrible," wrote a viewer.

"It was really hard to watch," commented an Instagram user who claimed they used to be a fan of Jessica's.

Some internet users took to the mom-of-three's defense, noting that she sounded good enough for her first live TV performance in years and that they were glad to see her back in her element.

"I loved seeing Jessica back on the stage," added an Instagram user.

"So proud of you, Jess," added another.

We will have to see if the singer-songwriter's next televised performance earns a little more praise, but if anything, her sparking look was a hit.
