Melania Trump‘s current and upcoming projects with Amazon have been defended by the founder himself, Jeff Bezos.
A recent interview with the billionaire has resurfaced of him calling the controversial Melania documentary, which premiered earlier this year, in which he referred to it as a “good business deal.” Despite that, once he was asked more about the documentary, he also claimed that he had “nothing to do” with the process of making it. Now, there are reports that a new docuseries on the First Lady is about to be released by the major company, seemingly hinting that he’s more involved in the content on her than he claims. Read more about the interview below.

Jeff Bezos Calls The 'Melania' Documentary A 'Good Business Deal'
One of the most notable moments in the film industry this year was the release of the documentary film, Melania, which was a movie that followed the First Lady as she prepared for President Trump's 2025 inauguration.
Amazon's Melania documentary premiered in January 2026, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Slovenian native during the 20 days leading up to the inauguration. The film, which was produced with Melania's involvement and directed by Brett Ratner, was licensed by Amazon MGM Studios for $40 million, with the company reportedly spending another $35 million on promotion and distribution.
The documentary quickly sparked controversy, with critics questioning the tech company's enormous investment in the film and accusing the company of trying to get in with the Trump administration. The film also received many negative reviews and struggled at the box office following its opening weekend. In a May interview, Jeff Bezos acknowledged the questions surrounding Amazon's decision to buy the film, defending it as "a good business decision."
"It did very well in theaters," he told The Guardian. "It's done very well on streaming. People are very curious about Melania. So even though I had nothing to do with it, it appears that the Amazon team made a very wise business decision."

Jeff Bezos Said He Had 'Nothing To Do' With Creating The 'Melania' Documentary Amid New Series Reports
Though he claimed the documentary film, which was described as quite underwhelming by critics and viewers, was a "wise business decision," in the same interview, the company founder also refused to say he took part in it.
When Melania was released, some critics accused Jeff Bezos and Amazon of using the documentary as a way to get closer to Donald Trump and get a place of power within his administration. The backlash came amid Bezos' seemingly close relationship with Trump, including his attendance at the president's inauguration and more. The backlash likely caused him to backpeddle in his interview with the above publication.
"The Melania thing is a falsehood that will not die," he said. "I see it reported all the time that somehow I was involved in this...I had nothing to do with that."
Despite the criticism surrounding the original documentary, Amazon is moving forward with a follow-up Melania docuseries. The multi-part series will continue to offer viewers a behind-the-scenes look at Melania Trump, with Amazon MGM Studios announcing the project as it doubles down on its relationship with the first lady following the success of the documentary on Prime Video.
