I’ve never met an ab workout I liked.
I was a serious runner for years, but even when I was logging lots of mileage, I’d happily run for an hour+ before voluntarily doing crunches. These days, I mostly just run for fun. Whenever I can, I incorporate core-focused yoga, which I find to be a more enjoyable way to get the job done.
So, I jumped at the chance to try the Megelin Slimcore Toning Belt—not because I thought a belt was going to magically give me a six-pack, but because the idea of giving my core a little extra attention without adding another dreaded workout sounded pretty good. I’ve also become a big fan of LED light therapy in general and have had a great experience with Megelin’s products previously, including the Duo Lux LASER & LED Light Therapy Mask.
Megelin’s Slimcore Toning Belt combines EMS muscle stimulation with heat, vibration, and multi-wavelength LED light therapy, creating a wearable treatment designed to support abdominal recovery, muscle comfort, and a more toned-looking midsection. At $459 (currently on sale for $199), it’s not exactly an impulse buy, so I put it to the test to see whether it could earn a place in my post-workout routine.

One Belt, Four Ways To Give Your Core A Little Extra Attention
If you’re looking at the SlimCore Toning Belt and wondering what’s happening underneath all those buttons and settings, the short answer is: a lot. It brings together four different technologies—EMS, heat, vibration, and LED light therapy—to create one wearable treatment for your midsection.
Let’s start with EMS (electrical muscle stimulation), which uses gentle electrical impulses to trigger rhythmic muscle contractions. The SlimCore’s EMS technology is FDA-cleared for temporary relief of muscle pain and enhancement of muscle performance. In practice, it gives your abs some extra stimulation without requiring you to stop what you’re doing for another set of crunches. The belt also uses vibration to create a massage-like sensation that can help relax tired muscles after a workout. Next, there’s the heat component, which ranges from about 100°F to 108°F, adding soothing warmth to the treatment area. The last piece is the belt’s multi-wavelength LED therapy, which is a big part of what makes the SlimCore different from a standard EMS belt. I’ll get into that more in a minute, because there’s some interesting stuff happening there!
Together, these features are designed to support abdominal muscle activation and help with muscle tension, whether that’s from a workout or sitting at a desk all day (no judgment). Megelin also positions the SlimCore as a body-toning and contouring tool, with the goal of supporting a firmer-looking midsection, more defined-looking abs, and smoother-looking skin.

The Red Light Therapy Is More Than Just A Pretty Glow
In my opinion, the LED light therapy might be the most interesting part of the SlimCore Toning Belt. It uses five different wavelengths, each intended to interact with the skin differently. The 625nm red light supports firmer-looking skin, while green light (525nm) helps improve the appearance of uneven skin tone. Purple light (400nm) helps with skin renewal, yellow light (590nm) promotes a brighter, more even-looking complexion, and blue light (465nm) is aimed at blemish-prone skin. But if you’re wondering which one has the most substantiated research behind it, that’s red light.
Red and near-infrared light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, use specific wavelengths of light to stimulate biological processes in the body. It’s been studied for its potential role in exercise recovery, including muscle soreness and strength recovery. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis looking at delayed-onset muscle soreness found that photomodulation produced a statistically significant reduction in reported soreness at 72 and 96 hours after exercise, with a moderate effect. Another 2024 meta-analysis of 34 randomized controlled trials found significant improvements in muscle strength at 24 and 48 hours, with large effect sizes.
Now, this obviously isn’t the same thing as saying, “Wear this belt and your sore abs will magically disappear.” These studies looked at photobiomodulation generally, using different devices, wavelengths, and treatment protocols. But they do give the red-light component of the SlimCore some interesting science to stand on, particularly when it comes to post-workout recovery!
What I Liked About The SlimCore Toning Belt
While I haven’t been using the SlimCore for very long, the biggest thing I noticed was in how my core felt after a workout. Granted, it doesn’t take much to make my abs start screaming—but wearing the SlimCore after a tough yoga session took some of that tight, tired feeling out of my midsection. The combination of EMS, heat, and vibration makes sense here, because the EMS stimulates the muscles, while the warmth and vibration create a relaxing experience.
I also really like that you don’t have to stop everything to use it. The SlimCore is completely wireless, so I could put it on after a workout and keep going with my day. There are six vibration levels, so I could adjust the intensity depending on how much stimulation I wanted, and the heat can be adjusted. I found the warmer settings especially nice when my core was feeling tight.
And because the belt combines several treatments in one device, it feels like more than an EMS gadget. You’re getting muscle activation, heat, vibration and LED therapy in the same wearable treatment, along with Megelin’s focus on firmer-looking skin. I wouldn’t expect any of those things to happen overnight, but I do like the idea of getting several different forms of post-workout care out of one device rather than having to buy and use separate gadgets.
Don’t Expect It To Do The Work For You
As much as I appreciate anything that makes recovery easier, I’m also realistic about what a device like this can and can’t do. I spent years training seriously as a runner, and there’s no wearable shortcut around consistent exercise and good nutrition. I wouldn’t buy the SlimCore expecting it to replace any of that.
I also haven’t been using it long enough to tell you that I’ve suddenly developed a dramatically more sculpted waist. Honestly, I’d be skeptical if anyone promised that from a belt alone. Megelin positions the SlimCore as a body-toning and contouring tool, but I’d look at those benefits as something that may complement an existing routine rather than the main reason to buy it.
Where I do think it makes a lot of sense is as an addition to the work you’re already doing. If you regularly do HIIT, strength training, or yoga, having a device you can strap on afterwards that helps your muscles feel less tight and more relaxed is pretty great.
My Final Take
After trying out the Megelin SlimCore Toning Belt, I think it’s best viewed as a recovery and wellness tool versus a replacement for working out. Don’t buy it thinking you’ll wear it once and wake up with six-pack abs, but it’s a fantastic option to give your core a little TLC.
For me, the biggest appeal is that it combines several things I already enjoy (heat, vibration and LED light therapy) with EMS in one wireless device. If you’re curious about EMS or light therapy but don’t want to invest in a bunch of separate gadgets, it’s nice that you can get all of that in one belt.
On sale now for $199, this is a good time to go ahead and give the Megelin SlimCore Toning Belt a try!
