Usha Vance is drawing attention after using her platform to raise awareness about diaper insecurity, while some social media users criticized the Trump administration in response to her message.
The second lady recently shared a video on the official SLOTUS Instagram account in recognition of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, which runs from September 14 through September 20. In the video, Vance spoke about the importance of diaper banks and the challenges many families face when trying to afford basic supplies for their babies.
Vance, who welcomed her fourth child with Vice President JD Vance in July, appeared in a white sleeveless cowl-neck top paired with black pants and minimal jewelry and makeup.

Usha Vance Joins Diaper Need Awareness Week
Reflecting on her experience as a new mother, she said, “Our fourth baby is just a few weeks old, and his birth has reminded me how all new parents need support from their friends, families, and communities during this precious and important time.”
She went on to explain that support can come in different forms, including “home-cooked meals, helping hands with older kids, and hand-me-downs.”
“For many families, diaper banks are a critical source of community support by providing diapers and wipes,” Vance said. “Diaper banks relieve financial stress, improve baby’s health and comfort, and give new parents peace of mind during the early years.”
She also thanked the people involved with diaper banks, including staff members, volunteers, donors and community partners, saying their work gives families “the chance to thrive.”
Vance’s message was met with criticism from some commenters, who used the post to raise broader concerns about the cost of living and policies associated with the Trump administration.
“Unbelievable, so much hypocrisy,” one person wrote.
“Kids need healthcare and childcare,” another commenter said.
“Complicit,” another wrote.
“Increase minimum wage, so the family don’t have to have multiple jobs,” someone else commented.
“The Trump/Vance administration has made every single thing unaffordable,” another person claimed.
“How about we pay people a living wage so they can afford their own diapers?” one commenter asked.
“The hypocrisy of this administration is mind blowing!” another added.

Rising Living Costs In The U.S.
The criticism comes as consumer prices remain higher than they were a year earlier. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index rose 3.4% over the 12 months ending in August 2026. Food prices increased 2.7% over the same period, while the index for food consumed at home rose 2.2%.
The latest figures measure overall changes in consumer prices and do not by themselves establish that the Trump administration caused the individual price increases cited by commenters.
Vance's diaper-bank campaign itself does not mention the administration's economic policies. In her original message, she focused on encouraging people to support organizations that provide diapers and other essentials to families in need.
The National Diaper Bank Network's 2026 survey found that 40% of U.S. households with children under age 4 who use diapers reported experiencing diaper insecurity, according to reporting on the campaign. Among households with incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty guideline, the figure was 62%.
