Serena Williams has undergone a dramatic weight loss transformation over the last few years, and shocked fans when she revealed that a lot of it was achieved through a GLP-1 medication, which she’s now plugging in a Super Bowl commercial.
Not long after sharing with the world that she had been using GLP-1 medications to help lose some excess weight she had gained after becoming a mother, the tennis pro is now starring in a Super Bowl commercial for Ro, a weight loss medication provider. The commercial has become super controversial, not just because of the fact that she took weight loss drugs and took so long to tell people, but also because her husband happens to be on the board of the company. Serena Williams Stars In A Super Bowl Commercial For Ro After Admitting To Taking GLP-1 Medication
Over the last few years, fans and other tennis lovers have been cheering on the mom-of-two, who began opening up to her social media followers about wanting to lose some excess baby weight and get in better shape after having her second daughter, Adira River, in 2023. She posted videos of her trying to fit into old clothes, and has been sharing lots of new snaps of her slimmed-down figure since then.
However, a lot changed last August, when she proudly admitted she had started taking a GLP-1 medication to lose 34 pounds. Not only did she say she was using the medication, but she also became a brand ambassador and partnered with Ro, a popular service that provides GLP-1 medications to those who may struggle to get them from their health providers or through their insurance.
Now that Super Bowl season is here, Ro decided to release a Super Bowl LX commercial and have Serena be the star of it. She can be seen in a blue outfit, mimicking injecting herself with the medication, and saying she was "healthier on Ro" and "supported on Ro."

Social Media Slams Serena For The Super Bowl Commercial
After the advertisement for the big game was shared early across all social media platforms, the internet immediately began buzzing.
The tennis champion was already receiving some backlash after she admitted to using weight loss medications, given she had reportedly started her health journey over two years prior. But what made things even more intense was the knowledge that her husband, Alexis Ohanian, is an investor and board member for Ro.
With all this information, numerous internet users did not react to the Super Bowl commercial very kindly, leaving comments about how they were 'disappointed' in the athlete.
"Now she's just another influencer," wrote an internet user.
"If we could all just have weight loss drugs, we could all look perfect," added another.
"Disappointing!" commented a fan, as others wrote it was "problematic," due to her connection to the company via her husband.
