Rihanna is disappointed that people think Fenty Beauty is groundbreaking, as the star told British Vogue this month.
“I’m shocked by people saying, ‘Oh my god, what made you think of making make-up for black girls?’” Rihanna told the magazine in her cover interview. “I’m like, ‘What? You thought this was like, a marketing strategy? Like I’m a genius?’ It’s shocking most of the time.”

The pop star-turned-entrepreneur began building her Fenty business empire, which now includes beauty, lingerie and luxury fashion, in 2017 with the launch of Fenty Beauty. The makeup brand was instantly popular and still is, due to its high quality products that come in an inclusive range of colors.
Rihanna explained to British Vogue that she was shocked that people consider the Fenty Beauty concept to be "groundbreaking." The way she sees it, the fact that the brand features black women at its center should be a normal factor in the current beauty industry.
Nonetheless, Rihanna plans to continue pushing her beauty business forward. Her next big move with the brand will be Fenty Skin, a full skincare line. She said, “Skincare, it’s the truth. It either works or it doesn’t. There’s nowhere to hide.”
