Prince William is ready to ascend to the throne, but is King Charles ready to hand over the crown? While his failing health is a good of a reason as any to take a step back from his royal duties, King Charles hasn’t even been king for five years yet, and might not be ready to take that step.
However, this transition period, where King Charles navigates doing what he can in his current state and Prince William picks up his slack in preparation for the future, has reportedly been quite a tense one for Prince William and Queen Camilla, who are butting heads over how much King Charles really can do. Queen Camilla & Prince William Argue Over King Charles' Health
Aside from King Charles' health, there's a lot of drama going on in the royal family as of late. The former Prince Andrew is well beyond disgraced and is trying to stay out of the public eye, and his immediate family, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson and his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, are trying to navigate their relationship with the former Prince while dealing with being in the public eye themselves. On top of that, there's the ever-present royal feud with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with Prince Harry recently saying he wants to be a better parent than his father was to him.
Dealing with all of this on top of his health plus all the responsibilities that come with being king; it's a lot for one 77-year-old. And Prince William wants him to take a step back and focus just on his health. "William wants his father to slow down and take a proper step back," an insider said to Examiner. But Camilla will have none of that.

"Every time he suggests it," the source continued, "Camilla gets in Charles’ ear and convinces him it would be a disaster to show any weakness right now."
Recently the Prince and the Queen got into an argument over a recent state banquet that Charles hosted for Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and first lady Oluremi Tinubu. "[It] caused a huge argument because William did not feel Charles was well enough to attend," another source explained. "But Camilla insisted they both needed to be there, so they went. In the end, all anyone talked about was how unwell Charles looked."
In response William isn't happy with his step-mother. "William’s furious that Camilla seems to care more about promoting herself and protecting her position than she does about protecting Charles," the source explained. "William is past the point of even trying to hide his distaste for Camilla. You can see it written all over his face whenever they’re in the same room. Camilla lost his trust ages ago and once you lose William’s trust, there’s really no coming back."
"No doubt, once he’s officially king, booting her out will be at the top of his agenda," the source added.
