While Melania Trump is often praised for her tailored suits and elegant coats, her latest look has sparked mixed reactions online.

She attended the National Governors Association Dinner at the White House on Saturday, February 21, wearing a black blouse featuring an attached front tie and a plunging V-neckline, paired with silver metallic Dolce & Gabbana pants.

She completed the ensemble with silver pumps and diamond earrings. The event was designated as black tie, and most attendees adhered to the formal dress code, with President Donald Trump wearing a tuxedo — making Melania’s pants-based look stand out.

Melania Trump Wears Metallic Pants To Black Tie Event At White House

After Fox News shared footage of the president and the mother of one arriving to the stage on X, critics quickly filled the comment section with their opinions.

“What is she wearing?!!! Glitter pants to a major professional dinner at the White House? She looks like she's going out for wine night with the other mafia wives,” said one user.

“Is she wearing a pair of trousers with no belt to a formal dinner?” another wrote. “Not much of an outfit for First Lady?” someone else commented, while another added, “I thought it was black tie?.”

“He’s in black tie and she’s wearing pants. He must not have paid her enough to get in a gown,” one joked.

“What's with the PANTS Melania? Going to a cocktail party?” another person asked. “Aluminum foil slacks? A propos for roasting the non-flotus,” wrote one critic. “I always like her looks but this seems a bit off the president in a tux and her in pants,” another noted.

“What the hell kind of pants she has on? Looks baggy and not attractive at all,” one user wrote. “Looks like she’s going on a picnic. How disgraceful,” said one person, while another added, “Wonder how much the aluminum foil pants cost..”

Melania Trump Donates Inaugural Ball Gown To Smithsonian

Most recently, Melania wore skintight leather leggings to donate her 2025 inaugural gown to the Smithsonian.

The First Lady stood before reporters and colleagues at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History beside the iconic black-and-white ballgown she wore to Donald Trump’s second inauguration ball in January 2025.

The custom, strapless off-white silk crepe gown was designed by Hervé Pierre and featured striking black silk bands forming a geometric, Z-shaped pattern across the bodice, along with a subtle slit. She accessorized with a black ribbon choker adorned with a reproduced 1955 Harry Winston diamond brooch.

With the donation, she becomes the first non-consecutive first lady to have two inaugural gowns displayed at the Smithsonian. Melania posed beside the gown, which was displayed inside a tall, clear case, and reflected on the moment.

“It’s incredible. It’s a historic moment,” she said. “This is not a dress,” she continued. “This is more than 50 years of education, experience, and wisdom realized with each thread, each stitch, each sharp edge.”

“It takes time; it’s slow, but the end result is always magical. If you had a chance to see my new film, MELANIA, you are well aware of what it took to bring this technical marvel to life."

"We must take pride, not only in the small rituals of self-care, but in the courageous act of self-expression. Our outward appearance to the world, the art of presenting oneself, can be cultivated over a lifetime," she added.
