While many celebrities prepare for major red carpet events with personal trainers and luxury wellness treatments, Lauren Sánchez opted for a much more unexpected Met Gala workout. Still, it was her styling—not the training itself—that ended up dominating online conversation.
Just days before attending the Met Gala on May 4, the former journalist joined the FDNY for an intense firefighter training session celebrating the Leary Firefighters Foundation’s 10th anniversary firefighter challenge.

Lauren Sánchez Wears Low-Cut Top To Fire Academy Challenge
The hands-on experience included navigating smoke-filled obstacle courses and training in full firefighter gear. Photos from the day showed Sánchez stretching before the challenge alongside her brother-in-law, Mark Bezos. Underneath the heavy firefighter jacket, she wore a low-cut tank top that revealed some cleavage.
She paired the look with a sleek ponytail, side fringe, and dewy makeup for the physically demanding workout.
The event was held in partnership with both the Leary Firefighters Foundation and the FDNY Foundation, with Sánchez later describing the experience as one of her most intense forms of Met Gala preparation yet.
“It’s probably the most unique Met prep ever,” she said to Vogue. “It was bananas, but I loved it. I probably lost about two pounds doing it.”
On Instagram, the mom of three—who also co-chaired and helped sponsor this year’s Met Gala alongside Jeff Bezos—shared her appreciation for firefighters.

Social Media Reacts
“Yesterday I had the chance to train with @fdny to benefit @learyfirefighters and @fdnyfoundation and let’s just say, they do not mess around,” she wrote. “It gave me a very small glimpse into the strength, discipline, and courage firefighters bring to their work.”
She added a message honoring firefighters ahead of International Firefighters’ Day, thanking them for their service.
Despite the charitable focus of the event, online reactions largely centered around her appearance.
“Can she do anything without cleavage?” one commenter asked, while another wrote, “Why can’t she keep her chest covered?”
Others criticized her style choices more harshly, with comments like, “She always manages to look so trashy,” and “Rich people hobbies.”
The criticism continued at the Met Gala itself, where Sánchez wore a custom midnight-blue Schiaparelli velvet gown featuring a tightly laced corset back designed to accentuate her waist. While the dramatic look aligned with her signature glamorous aesthetic, some critics online mocked the outfit as “Amazon prom chic.”
