With Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez serving as lead sponsors and honorary chairs of the 2026 Met Gala, it appears they may be putting their own spin on this year’s event. Reports suggest that Sánchez, in particular, may not be adhering to the traditionally strict dress code followed by celebrities and fashion houses attending the gala.

For decades, Vogue‘s Anna Wintour has overseen the event as its lead chairperson, personally approving guests’ outfits. This year, however, insiders claim Sánchez plans to stick to her signature style—often featuring bold, form-fitting silhouettes and more revealing designs.

Lauren Sánchez Defies Upcoming Met Gala Dress Code

“Anna’s pretty tough on what people wear—it all goes through her,” Hollywood source Rob Shuter said on Maureen Callahan’s The Nerve podcast. “I’m told that Lauren is not going through Anna. Lauren will look like Lauren. She’s not covering up—the hair will be big, and she’s not toning it down.”

Shuter also claimed that the philanthropist played a major role in backing the event. “Lauren Sánchez bought this ball. It might be Jeff’s money, but it was Lauren’s idea. This was her passion—he doesn’t care about fashion. This is her thing,” he said, noting that the couple is helping fund the “Costume Art” exhibition and gala as major private patrons.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some critics questioning the influence of billionaires on the high-profile fundraiser. Still, Wintour has publicly praised their support.

“And so, he’s paid millions of dollars to make his wife literally the belle of the ball,” another insider remarked. “Let’s see how Anna feels about this when Lauren steps out of her limousine.”

Lauren Sánchez Playing 'Matchmaker' With Friends

Bezos and Lauren tied the knot last June in Italy, with their star-studded wedding drawing a wave of A-list guests. Now, sources say Sánchez is continuing to leverage the couple’s extensive social circle as she prepares for upcoming Met Gala festivities.

According to the Daily Mail, the former journalist has been using her wide network of contacts to help connect single celebrity friends with potential partners—essentially acting as an informal matchmaker.

“Everyone these days goes to Lauren,” an insider told the Daily Mail of the 56-year-old’s dating connections. “She is like a matchmaker now.”

The source added that between her friends and Bezos’ contacts, the pair know “a ton of eligible bachelors” and often introduce people within their circle.

One reported high-profile pairing said to have emerged from Sánchez’s introductions is between her friend Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“Lauren introduced them through her circle—she thought they’d vibe instantly, and wow, did she call it,” entertainment reporter Rob Shuter said on Substack in October. “They have insane chemistry.”
