King Charles reportedly kept Prince William and Kate Middleton completely in the dark about his secret reunion with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, earlier this month.

After months of speculation over whether the estranged father and son would meet during Prince Harry’s latest trip to the U.K., King Charles and Queen Camilla are said to have reunited with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their two children at Highgrove House on July 10th. The meeting was reportedly kept so secret that not even the Prince and Princess of Wales knew it was taking place until after the Sussexes had left.

William and Kate were reportedly attending the DMMI Royal Charity Polo Cup 2026 while the reunion took place. Whether that timing was carefully planned or simply a coincidence remains unclear at the time of writing, although previous reports have claimed that William had no interest in meeting Harry amid their yearslong feud that seems to show no signs of ending, with insiders claiming he viewed his brother as “untrustworthy” and was “done” with both him and Meghan. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Arrived At – And Departed – Highgrove House Without Being Seen: 'Cloak And Dagger'

There was plenty of speculation leading up to Harry's trip to the U.K., from whether he would stay at Buckingham Palace to whether his private security arrangements had been finalized, as well as whether Meghan and the children would even accompany him. Whether the conflicting reports were designed to throw the media off the scent or reflected genuinely last-minute planning remains unclear.

According to reports, everyone was kept in the dark about the secret reunion, including future king and queen Prince William and Kate Middleton. Royal expert Katie Nicholl reportedly claimed that sources told her "not even the Prince and Princess of Wales were made aware that the meeting was taking place." And that's exactly how King Charles wanted it!

Nicholl also reported that the king, "who has sworn his youngest son and daughter-in-law to secrecy," insisted that nothing about their July 10th meeting be leaked. Palace aides only confirmed the reunion had taken place after the Sussexes had quietly left Highgrove House without being seen.

A source close to Charles told Nicholl that the hour-long meeting was "completely cloak-and-dagger, orchestrated by the king." The source added: "The king wanted to see Harry and the children. A time was agreed for the Sussexes to come to Highgrove... and it was uncharacteristically last-minute for the king. Everyone was sworn to secrecy so that the meeting could remain private."

Queen Camilla

Queen Camilla Found Out Last Minute, And Drove To Highgrove In 'Quite A Hurry'

Queen Camilla also reportedly only learned about the meeting at the very last minute, which is quite interesting. She was said to have been staying at her Ray Mill House home before making a quick journey to Highgrove.

Previous reports claimed Camilla wanted to be present for any meeting between Charles and the Sussexes, and it seems the king wanted her there too. According to the insider, Camilla drove to Highgrove in "quite a hurry," adding: "Charles wanted Camilla to be there for moral support because she had been a pillar of strength for him throughout all the drama with Harry, and she dropped everything. She told no one, not even her family. She just got in the car and headed over. They were all on a mission to keep the meeting as watertight as possible."

"Personally, I feel Camilla played a hand in this, too," royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital. "She would have encouraged Charles to support a meeting, provided that none of the issues discussed would be made public."

Prince William upset

Will Prince William Be Upset About Prince Harry's Reunion With King Charles?

While the Princess of Wales has previously reportedly wanted the brothers to reunite, more recent reports have suggested that she no longer believes a reunion will be in her family's best interests.

Prince William will likely be less than thrilled that the meeting was kept from him, as he has previously made his feelings about his younger brother clear. Reports have claimed that he does not believe either Harry or his disgraced uncle, ex-Prince Andrew, should be welcomed back into the royal fold.

An insider recently claimed William was already furious about the prospect of a meeting before learning it had actually taken place. "William is furious and also sees this as crossing a line. From his perspective, the damage caused over recent years by the Sussexes has been too great to simply brush aside."

Prince Harry Prince William King Charles

According to royal expert Emily Nash, King Charles was likely all too aware that a reunion with Prince Harry could upset Prince William, which may have been another reason for keeping the meeting secret.

Writing for Hello!, Nash said: "A reunion with Prince Harry and his children, four years after they last came back to the U.K. together as a family, could upset Prince William." Reports have long suggested that William has little interest in repairing their relationship, making it unsurprising that Charles chose to handle the reunion privately. However, royal experts believe Charles simply considers his relationship with Harry to be his own responsibility, particularly if his main motivation was seeing his grandchildren.

"I see it as King Charles recognizing that Prince Harry is his relationship to manage," Kinsey Schofield told Fox News Digital. "Prince William's priority is protecting the future of the monarchy. Charles can afford to make emotional decisions that William, as the next king, probably cannot."
