Prince Harry may have taken his family to spend time with his father and step-mother for the first time in four years, but he still has a ways to go before true reconciliation. While a trip to King Charles’ Highgrove House was certainly a step in the right direction, according to insiders, Harry still has a lot of amends to make before a true relationship with his father is on the table. According to reports, King Charles’ “non-negotiable” is that Prince Harry mend his relationship with Queen Camilla. Keep reading for more information.

King Charles' 'Non-Negotiable': Queen Camilla
Prince Harry took his wife, Meghan Markle, and children, Prince Archie and Princess Lili, to spend time with King Charles and Queen Camilla in the UK earlier this month, marking their first reunion since 2022. While details of the meeting have been kept private, many royal fans have been wondering if this get together was the first step in a journey towards reconciliation–at least with Charles and Camilla. Harry and Meghan have notoriously kept their distance from the royal family since moving to California in 2020, and tensions between them and the rest of the royals have been quite high ever since.
But with King Charles aging while simultaneously battling cancer, it seems Harry has had a change of heart, and has seemingly been angling for mending his relationship with his father. However, King Charles won't be doling out forgiveness so easily, insiders are saying. There will be no relationship with King Charles without one with Queen Camilla: "She is a non-negotiable part of Charles' life," royal author Catherine Mayer explained to People. "There is no reconciliation with him without her."

Prince Harry's Complicated Relationship With Queen Camilla
Prince Harry and Queen Camilla got off to a rocky start, as Prince Harry was so young when his father had an affair with Camilla while still married to Harry and William's mother, Princess Diana. In his 2023 memoir, Spare, Harry wrote about his complicated feelings toward Camilla. "I had complex feelings about gaining a stepparent, who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar," Prince Harry wrote, referencing the allegations that Camilla leaked stories about him to the press in an effort to save her image.
He doubled down on that statement in a 2023 interview with Good Morning America, explaining, "She had a reputation or an image to rehabilitate, and whatever conversations happened, whatever deals or trading was made right at the beginning, she was led to believe that that would be the best way to doing it."
Even then, he had a strained relationship with her. When asked how his relationship with her was at the time, he said, "We haven’t spoken for a long time. I love every member of my family, despite the differences. So when I see her, we’re perfectly pleasant with each other. She’s my stepmother. I don’t look at her as an evil stepmother. I see someone who married into this institution, and done everything she can to improve her own reputation and her own image, for her own sake."
