Jelly Roll Reveals He Was '6 To 12 Months' Away From Death During His New Interview With Joe Rogan

This month, the "Son of a Sinner" singer was a guest on the famous podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. It was an eventful episode that quickly went viral, as during it, he was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry and opened up about his weight loss journey.

At one point, Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, reflected on what life was like at his heaviest weight, which was 500 pounds, and what inspired him to finally lock in and drop all those excess pounds.

"I don't think I'm making this up when I say I was six to twelve months away from missing it," Jason admitted. "Especially [with] traveling. I travel 280 days a year. At 500-something pounds, 200-something flights a year, I wasn't gonna be able to do it. I knew it."

The singer also noted that when his 40th birthday began approaching, that was another sign that he knew he needed to make a change before entering a new phase of his life.

"I knew my next one was 40. … I don't think I've ever met a 500-pound 40-year-old," he recalled. "I was like, 'Man, I should really start trying to figure this out. I could feel myself dying."

Jelly Roll Credits His 'Supportive' Family For Helping Him On His Weight Loss Journey

As he was looking back on how far he's come while talking to the podcast host, the 41-year-old noted that he couldn't have lost the amount of weight he has or become as successful as he is without the help of his family, particularly his wife, Bunnie.

"She was supportive through all the phases," he noted. "She was just like, 'Yo, this is time.' And she went out of her way. The first three months of the diet...I'd sit down with her and go, 'Look, I need you to hide the food.'"

Jason added that his wife and teenage daughter would help him out by hiding any junk food or unhealthy snacks from him in their house during the initial phase of his weight loss, and since then, they have been very helpful in pushing him to keep going.

We're very excited to see what the next year brings for the singer as he continues on his health journey, and what goals he'll achieve on the way.
