Rep. Jasmine Crockett Awards Chris Brown Congressional Record Recognition

Rep. Jasmine Crockett made a surprise appearance at Chris Brown and Usher’s concert at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, September 12th. The Texas Democrat took the stage alongside Texas state Rep. Venton Jones to recognize Chris and Usher for their contributions to R&B.

The representative presented the “With You” singer with a congressional recognition that honors his artistry and was entered into the Congressional Record. She told the crowd that she wanted to formally document the moment before praising Chris and embracing him onstage.

“Right now, we are experiencing Black joy to the highest level, and I wanted to make sure we document that in the Congressional Record,” she can be heard saying in a viral video.

Social Media Users Slam Jasmine For Honoring Chris

The politician is now facing significant backlash online after honoring the rapper during his concert in Texas, with footage from the event going viral. Social media users criticized the Texas Democrat for publicly recognizing the singer despite his history of violence and allegations involving women, with some questioning her decision to celebrate him through an official congressional recognition.

Chris has faced multiple legal issues and allegations of violence over the years. He pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna and has also faced an assault case involving a man, allegations from ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran that led to a restraining order, and other allegations of violence against women. More recently, he pleaded guilty to affray in the UK over an incident in which prosecutors accused him of attacking a man with a bottle.

"Are you kidding me?" asked a user on X. "My level of respect for her was already waning. Celebrating a man who abuses women is not okay. Jasmine Crockett, I am so disappointed."

"This is so disgusting @JasmineForUS," wrote another. "So you have no problem supporting a man who has a long history of domestic violence against women? Especially black women? Gross."

"Why have we decided that he's eligible for reputation rehabilitation?" a user asked. "This was a huge miss for Jasmine."

"Wow," a user commented. "Talking about going from hero to zero, Jas. Reward abusers. Nice move."
