One of the worst feelings is when your iPhone, which you likely spent a lot of money on, starts to lag and slow down.

When this happens, a lot of people panic, and many automatically think it’s an indicator that they need a new smartphone, subsequently spending a lot more money. However, there are a lot of changes you can make to speed your device back up before having to make the drastic choice to get a new one. From adjusting certain settings to deleting things and more, we’re sharing three different moves you can make to speed up your lagging iPhone. Read more about them below.

1. Turn On Adaptive Power

Sometimes, when users are on their iPhones all the time and use them to the fullest, with a bunch of apps open, high volume, a bright screen, etc., they can burn out and slow down more easily. But, turning on features like Adaptive Power allows your device to make the adjustments it needs to preserve its battery and overall function. Chances are, you won't even notice the difference.

"If extending battery life is your major concern, switching on Adaptive Power is one way to get more performance from your device without impacting usability," says tech pro Aimee Simpson. "With your device getting to know your usage patterns, it makes minor adjustments like lowering screen brightness and limiting background tasks to save power. Best of all, this setting doesn't throttle performance when you need peak performance, like capturing video or playing games. And because this setting functions automatically in the background, users don't have to worry about managing it on the move."

2. Clear Your System's Cache Routinely

iPhones are fascinating in the way they can hold onto files and data for a long time. However, when they don't get cleared out or updated, they can easily start to lag and get on your nerves. Therefore, it's a good idea to clear your system's cache routinely.

"A hack that most people don't know about is clearing your iPhone's system cache on a regular basis," explains tech expert Alex Bobes. "iOS does a good job of managing memory, but years of cached files from Safari, apps, and system updates build up and slow things down. When I help people who are frustrated about slow devices, clearing out Safari's website data and deleting apps they don't use often makes their devices noticeably faster without needing any technical knowledge."

3. Clear Out Your Storage

One of the most common reasons why a user's iPhone starts lagging, slowing down, or acting up in general is that its storage is full. Not having enough storage space left can mess up a lot of features, which is why whenever you get a chance, you should go into your storage settings to see which areas of your device need the most cleaning up.

"Your iPhone needs breathing room, not a digital junk drawer full of screenshots of receipts and memes you forgot about," adds tech repair expert Sam Devia. "When storage drops too low, phones become slow, crash, restart randomly, and fail updates. To clean it up, go to Settings, then General, then iPhone Storage, and keep at least 5 to 10 GB free by deleting unused apps, videos, and old photos."
