Losing weight doesn’t have to mean giving up your favorite comfort foods. By making a few smart ingredient swaps, it’s possible to enjoy crispy, flavorful meals that are higher in protein and better aligned with your health goals.

Weight loss influencer Samantha Milton, who has lost an impressive 270 pounds, recently shared one of her go-to high-protein dinners: pretzel-crusted chicken cutlets paired with a light honey mustard dipping sauce. Instead of traditional breadcrumbs, Milton uses a protein-packed alternative that boosts the meal’s nutritional value without sacrificing crunch.

Here’s how she makes the recipe.

Swap Breadcrumbs For High-Protein Pretzels

The biggest twist on Milton’s chicken cutlets is replacing standard breadcrumbs with crushed protein pretzels.

“These are my pretzel-crusted chicken cutlets with a honey mustard dipping sauce,” she says. “They’re loaded with protein, of course.”

Instead of breadcrumbs, she recommends using Crisp Power Protein Pretzels.

“These are delicious, and those macros are insane,” she says.

The swap adds extra protein while still creating a crispy coating when air-fried.

Season The Chicken Well

Milton starts by preparing an egg wash made with two eggs and a splash of milk.

She seasons the mixture with:

  • Salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika

She then coats about 1½ pounds of thin-sliced chicken breast in the egg mixture before pressing each piece into the crushed pretzels until fully coated.

Air Fry Until Crispy

After coating the chicken, Milton lightly mists each piece with avocado oil before placing them in the air fryer.

She cooks the cutlets at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for about eight minutes per side, creating a golden, crunchy crust.

“That’s a pretzel crust, if I ever heard one,” she jokes after pulling them out.

Pair It With A Lighter Honey Mustard

For dipping, Milton opts for G Hughes Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, which she points out contains just 20 calories per two tablespoons.

“Honey mustard and pretzel just felt right,” she says.

After taking a bite, she raves about the finished meal.

“That really is the perfect combination of flavors,” she says. “That is a good crunch.”

Why High-Protein Meals Can Support Weight Loss

Protein-rich meals can help increase fullness, preserve lean muscle during weight loss, and reduce the temptation to snack between meals. Pairing lean chicken breast with a higher-protein coating is one example of how small ingredient swaps can make favorite comfort foods more filling while still fitting into a balanced eating plan.

Milton’s recipe proves that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring—and that a satisfying crunch can still be on the menu while working toward your weight loss goals.
