If you have thin hair, you should completely avoid using co-wash or two-in-one shampoo and conditioner products.
This is because these two-in-one products are loaded with ingredients that do not wash out easily and therefore leave behind heavy buildup and residue. This chemical buildup can lead to thin hair because it blocks the hair follicle and stunts new growth.
"Some shampoos are worse than others because the ratio of cleansing agents versus ingredients that don't easily rinse off (i.e. silicones, conditioners etc.) is weighted heavily toward the conditioning side, not the cleansing side,” said Gail Federici, founder of Color Wow and co-founder of John Frieda, to New Beauty.
When co-wash products like this only focus on conditioning and not cleansing, the chemical ingredients don’t ever get completely rinsed out of your scalp. Shampoos and conditioners, co-wash or otherwise, containing sulfates, silicones, and pearlizing agents should be avoided to reduce scalp buildup.
