Lindsay Clancy is a Massachusetts mother who was charged with murdering her three young children, who ranged from five to eight months old, at their home in January 2023 before attempting to take her own life. Clancy's defense argued that she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible for the killings, while prosecutors maintained that she intentionally planned the deaths and understood that her actions were wrong. After nearly six weeks of tragic testimony, the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict, causing Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial on September 4th, leaving prosecutors to decide whether to pursue a new trial.
Now, Lindsay's lawyer, Kevin Reddington, whose work and statements in court went viral throughout the trial, is speaking on her behalf for various media outlets. During an interview on Good Morning America, the attorney directly asked President Trump if he could pardon his client, wanting her to be declared not criminally responsible as soon as possible.
"I'd like to say that perhaps Donald Trump, who felt compelled to speak out about this case, may very well...Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she has been through, and consider a pardon," he said during his interview.

The plea from the 75-year-old attorney ended up catching the attention of the president, who decided to make a comment on the situation while speaking to the press yesterday, September 13th, before boarding his plane back to the U.S. after attending the Irish Open in Ireland.
The Apprentice star acknowledged the lawyer's request for a pardon, noting that he could only offer clemency for federal offenses, while the former labor and delivery nurse was prosecuted under Massachusetts state law.
"It's a very sad situation," he told the press, as reported by People. "I certainly heard that. But, look...there is no winner there... There's no win, no matter what you do. It's - three children are dead, so I don't know. But it's actually a state situation, you know, not a federal [one]."
After the president's reaction was shared on social media platforms, users began weighing in on the matter and whether or not they agreed with him. He spoke briefly about her trial before the mistrial was declared, calling it a "horrible tragedy."
