Anne Hathaway, like many female celebrities these days, has been accused of getting a facelift or some kind of plastic surgery. After sharing a beauty tip she swears by for her youthful look, people are debating whether or not she’s telling the truth.

The famous actress recently shared a video of her hairstylist helping her get ready for this year’s Academy Awards, where he used a clever tight ponytail trick to help pull her skin back and give her a more youthful look. Her video didn’t come long after months of speculation that she’s gotten a facelift, and some plastic surgeons still have people asking questions whether she has or hasn’t. Read more about the situation below.

Anne Hathaway Shares A Ponytail Trick While Getting Ready For The Oscars

Over the last two years, the Princess Diaries icon has faced numerous plastic surgery and cosmetic treatment allegations due to her youthful appearance.

Though she's been known for her beauty for decades now, many social media users and aesthetics professionals noticed that Anne's face had changed in interesting ways over the years. Aside from getting older, there were some features about her that didn't seem like part of the natural aging process. For instance, her eyes are pulled back a little more than usual, and people have said her face looks overall "snatched."

Right after the Oscars this past March, Anne shared a video on Instagram that contained a behind-the-scenes look at her styling team helping her get ready. At one point, she asked her hairstylist to show her followers his "secret" that made her look more youthful. Her stylist then took small, hidden pieces of her hair on either side near her face, braided them, then pulled them back slightly to pull back her skin before hiding them beneath her ponytail.

"And you look a little bit more awake," she says in the reel. "That's the trick."

A Plastic Surgeon & Social Media Users React To Anne's Trick

The video from the mom-of-two's Oscars night garnered some mixed reviews. While there were a lot of social media users who were shocked and thought the trick was a super clever one they could use in their everyday lives, others were not so convinced she was telling the whole truth.

One of those people was board-certified plastic surgeon and content creator Dr. Manish H. Shah, who created a response video on how she could be telling the truth, but that her look likely is the ponytail tricked, combined with some kind of procedure.

"She claims that her secret is that a tight hairstyle can make her look more youthful and that's how we get into the area of the ponytail effect and in our case, as surgeons, the 'ponytail lift,'" says Dr. Shah, who asks, "Are you buying it?!" in his caption.

"Now, when hair is pulled back, you get areas of effect that involve sort of the temple brow area and mid-face area, giving you something that's lifted and more youthful looking because of the pull backward in the vector here lifts everything nicely," he continues. "This look can come from a hairstyle alone, but in many cases, it requires something like endoscopic facial surgery or the ponytail lift, as it is more popularly known at this point."

Under other informative videos, social media users chimed in with their thoughts.

"This…but sis also got a facelift," commented an Instagram user. "I love Anne down, but let's be for real."

"Anne Hathaway had the facelift," speculated another. "This 'trick' was to change the narrative around her face, looking 15 years younger."

"It works especially well when you have a facelift too!" joked a user.
