King Charles is getting some unexpected attention during his official visit to the Bahamas, but it’s not exactly for the reasons the royal family might have hoped. The monarch recently joined in on a traditional Junkanoo parade in Nassau, where he showed off some dance moves alongside local performers. While the celebration was meant to highlight Bahamian culture, a video of Charles dancing has since made its way around social media, with viewers less than impressed by his moves and plenty of people sharing their secondhand embarrassment. Keep reading for more information.

King Charles Joins Dancing Parade

The dancing took place during Charles’ official visit to the Bahamas as part of a nine-day Caribbean tour, which also included stops in Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda. The trip marked his first visit to the Bahamas as monarch, having last traveled to the country in 1973 as Prince Charles. During his time in Nassau, the King took part in a special Junkanoo parade, a traditional Bahamian street celebration featuring elaborate costumes, colorful feathered headdresses, lively music and energetic dancing. The event was organized to celebrate the country’s culture and welcome the royal visitor.

While joining the festivities, Charles appeared to get into the spirit of the celebration, moving along to the music and attempting some of the dance steps alongside the performers. Dressed in a gray suit, the 77-year-old monarch was seen swaying his hips, bouncing to the rhythm and moving his arms as he participated in the lively procession. He also got involved with the music, holding and shaking a traditional Bahamian cowbell as performers danced around him.
