Martha Stewart Loses 22 Pounds Through Pilates

Stewart’s weight loss journey began when Sports Illustrated approached her about being on the cover of their magazine in 2023. When she accepted, she knew she’d have two months to get in shape, so she turned to Pilates. “I went to Pilates every other day and that was great,” she told Today. “I’m still going to Pilates every other day because it’s so great.”

Speaking to Pamela Anderson for a February 2025 Elle feature, Stewart explained that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important too. “I’m strong and I’m healthy. But I work at it. I take care of myself,” she said, adding, “And I do have good heredity.”

When Anderson replied that she mostly gets her exercise through dancing, walking, or a gardening, Stewart joked, “You don’t do Pilates like I do, three mornings a week at 6:30am? Everybody wants Pilates.”

Later on that same year, speaking to Women’s Health, Stewart elaborated on all the benefits of Pilates aside from weight loss. “It also is very good for strengthening one’s bones, keeping one limber, working with aches and pains, [and] stretching out,” she explained. “I do a very intense program and it’s nonstop for 45 minutes.”

And the regime has kept her youthful! At 85 years old, she still feels fantastic. “I might not be as energetic as I used to be, but I’m pretty good,” she said. “The amount of weights and things that I use are pretty much the same as they’ve always been, so I’m strong. I’m very strong.
