The “shrinkflation” subreddit is at it again with another post complaining about the shrinking size of Burger King sandwiches. Time time, a poster took to the platform to commiserate about the puny patty on his Spicy Chicken Sandwich—and they even threatened legal repercussions for the chain.

“At this point, there’s room for a lawsuit,” the post says, complete with a picture of the sad-looking chicken sandwich. “I ordered based on protein count. This doesn’t meat what’s advertised. Standard dipping sauce for size comparison.” (“Meat” might be a coincidental typo for “meet” here.) “Absolutely filing an official complaint,” they concluded.

The disappointment in the lack of protein is understandable, but some say the smaller size is a blessing in disguise. Learn more about what the internet is saying below.

Burger King customers debate “shrinking” patty sizes

Are the sandwiches at Burger King really shrinking? Many posters in the shrinkflation subreddit would say “yes.” “Shrinkflation” is a word coined to sum up the increasingly common phenomenon of fast food and grocery prices rising as the portion sizes shrink. Online, customers frequently complain about situations like this one, and Burger King certainly isn’t safe against the tirade.

One commenter on this particular post shared a helpful, money-saving tip: “I buy breaded chicken patties from Costco and air fry them to make the best dang chicken sandwiches,” they wrote. “Stop paying these greedy deceptive clowns.”

Another Redditor who claimed to work at Burger King said the issue here isn’t shrinkflation, but a lack of standardization. “The crispy chicken patty sizes are not standardized and will vary,” the wrote.

However, the original poster was not satisfied with this explanation, responding: “They can vary within a set size. But it should not be ‘some people get a breaded nugget, some people get half a chicken.’ It’s still false advertising.”

Regardless of false advertising, shrinkflation, or just an unfortunate experience, some commenters jumped in to condemn fast food altogether, implying that customers should have learned their lesson by now.

"Its garbage fast food. How many posts need to be repeated?" one comment reads.

"Well it's Burger King. Not giving you what you thought you would get and paid for probably extended your lifespan by two days. So it's kind of a win for you," another joked.

In any case, it certainly seems that Burger King customers—or any fast food enjoyer, for that matter—will not be satisfied unless sandwich sizes get a serious revamp. And we're not putting money on that.
