Attention, cheese lovers! It’s time to check the labels in your fridge. Two types of specialty cheeses sold at Whole Foods locations across seven states have been recalled due to a labeling error that could be deadly for some people.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported on September 11 that these Whole Foods cheeses contain undisclosed egg lysozyme, an egg white protein, which may be life-threatening to individuals with food sensitivities and allergies.

Specialty Cheese Recalled From Whole Foods
Whole Foods has removed the recalled cheese from their store shelves after the failure to list allergens was detected—but it may still be in the refrigerators of homes across the country.
The cheese, which was cut and wrapped in plastic, is labeled as Whole Foods Fromagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme Raw Milk, Aged 60 days, with a PLU of 57953; and Whole Foods Belgian Cabricharme, PLU 54670. Both have a best-by dates up to and including 10/7/2026.
These cheeses were sold across Whole Foods locations in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
If you bought this cheese and still have it, the FDA recommends disposing of it. You can also take your receipt to the store you purchased the product for a full refund—no return required.
People with egg sensitivities and allergies should especially avoid eating this food.
